About this deal

This Samsung panel uses relatively inaccurate edge-based lighting rather than putting its LEDs directly behind the screen. (Image credit: Future/TechRadar) Samsung Q60B review: Features Percentage Luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output

This means that as well as feeling unsatisfying in themselves, the flat-looking dark scenes contribute to a sense of inconsistency that can be quite distracting when you’re trying to immerse yourself in a film. Once you’ve grown accustomed to these highlights of the Q60B’s pictures, you also become aware of its excellent sharpness. This is especially true with native 4K content, of course, but actually its upscaling of HD sources is also a cut above the norm at this price point, even without the full might of Samsung’s AI-based databases on hand to help it identify and respond to different sources more effectively. Gaming: Samsung features its elaborate game display even on less-expensive models like the Q60B. Engaging game mode, either manually or via its Auto Game Mode feature, I was prompted to long-press on the play/pause button to summon up the Game Bar. It appears along the bottom of the screen and displays current frames per second, HDR status and VRR (which isn't available on the Q60B, so its status indicator will always read "Off). Since we wouldn’t typically associate such clouding with Samsung mid-range or even budget LCD TVs, we can’t help but wonder if the push for an ‘air-slim’ design is at least partly to blame.

The greyness can filter into colours in low-lit content too, making them look flatter than they do during bright scenes, as well as sometimes causing subtle shadow details to be squeezed out of the picture. Some aspects of the new menu navigation system aren’t helpful/logical either, especially when it comes to accessing the picture and sound set up menus.

Potential which it delivers on in some areas, but falls a little short in others. The Q60B also stands out from many rivals with its sharpness. Native 4K images typically look crisp and full of texture, while the 4K upscaling of HD sources delivers exceptionally clean, crisp, and natural-looking results. While it doesn’t carry local dimming, it does benefit from a Dual-LED lighting system, that finds the LEDs ranged around the screen producing alternating cool and warm tones in a bid to increase color accuracy and richness. Playing the game I noticed color was more realistic and accurate on the Sony, and similar to the TCL and LG, while the Samsung appeared more saturated and garish. The Samsung again beat the non-TCL TVs for contrast and punch, handily, although to its credit the Sony revealed more details in the shadows, which is an advantage in dark games with lurking enemies. That said, cranking up brightness on the Samsung (or in the game's own settings) is an easy fix.

As well as potentially not helping the Q60B’s picture quality in some areas, its Air Slim design likely also contributes to its underwhelming audio performance. There just doesn’t seem to be enough physical space to create either the volume levels or dynamic range – especially where lower frequencies are concerned – to provide a really convincing accompaniment to anything more rambunctious than a daytime chat show. The Q60B gets Samsung’s Game Bar interface, which provides key information on incoming gaming graphics and provides faster access to a few gaming-related features. This includes support, uniquely at this price point, for the Super Ultrawide GameView feature that lets you play some compatible PC games in a 32:9 aspect ratio to increase your field of view. There’s also ALLM switching but, unfortunately, that’s the last of the cutting-edge gaming features; there’s no support over any of the TV's three HDMIs for either 4K at 120Hz feeds, or VRR.prostorový zvuk s naším virtuálním špičkovým audio kanálem přináší poslechové zážitky, jež vás naprosto pohltí.
