About this deal

So what led the Kids Ride Shotgun brand to develop their original Shotgun child seat and why did they feel it was better to have their children positioned on the front of the bike rather than than on the rear like traditional bicycle child seats?.. Some parents may not notice, especially on smoother terrain. But for other parents, they may need to take bumpier riding terrain slower as their passenger is not as securely nestled into the saddle. Why? Because with a child this size, moving them closer to the front of the bike will cause their knees to interfere with the bike’s ability to turn fully.

With the Original Shotgun and Shotgun 2.0, the seat has to be properly adjusted to fit each bike. While this process doesn’t take long, it does take about 10 minutes to remove and then set up on another bike (after practice). As a result, swapping the frame-mounted Shotguns from bike to bike on a regular basis would be much more work than with the Pro. The length of the inside leg of the shotgun seat is 210mm, and the outside leg of the shotgun seat is 258mm in length. So while the set up and adjusting of the Shotgun Pro took more time and some trial and error, once adjusted right, this new seat evoked stoke and trail riding happiness! Weight Limit: The higher 60 pound weight limit of the 2.0 will come in handy if you plan on riding with your kids until they are 4 or 5. We still love taking our 5-year-old (47.5″ tall, 54 lb.) daughter for casual rides around the neighborhood on the Shotgun, but at her size we would never ride with this set-up on true trails. (She currently rides a 20″ MTB.) After first launching our shotgun child seat in 2017, we're now on a mission to raise the next generation of mountain bikers, and provide parents with all the tools they need to get kids off screens and into nature.

This position did, however, stretch her son out a bit more on the bike. Above you can see him leaning forward more on the Shotgun Pro, while he’s still pretty upright on the Mac Ride. This won’t be as comfortable for very young riders, but Lauren and her son still had an epic 7.5 mile ride with this set up. We've tested the original version of the Shotgun front seat and you can read our review - 3 year old Rosie and her dad loved it! Some parents find a stem mounted seat can affect balance or steering (particularly off-road) as the weight is over the front of the bike. In this case, some parents favour a frame-mounted seat where the weight is more towards the centre of the bike. Each time you remove the MTB seat, you also have to release the rail latch to shorten the horizontal rail to allow for space to take off the seat. And then of course lengthen the rail and close the latch when you’re attaching the seat to your bike. It’s very much a similar feeling with the Shotgun. Sure, our elder two children were taken all over everywhere on bikes and enjoyed many rides immensely.

Riding with the Shotgun seats has brought so many giggles, laughs, and weeeee to our family bike rides. We’ve tried all the ways of bringing your kid on a ride with you ( bike trailers, Wehoo Turbo, etc.), but there’s just something about having the child being on the bike and holding the bars that gives you both a more involved, connected experience. It also makes them feel like they are the one in control! The Shotgun seat is definitely a great option, especially if you are using a dropper post that is fully inserted into the seatpost. Saddle sits lower on the bike, making it a more universal fit for riders of all heights. Also allows for better true ready position while descending, as well as more room for growth. The Shotgun Pro seat is suitable for dropper posts and all common seat post sizes, including 27.2mm, 30.9mm, 31.6mm and 34.9mm. Fitting requires 14mm of available seat post space. The footrests on the Do Little, Shotgun, and Mac Ride all extend down from the seat mount and rest of the sides of the down tube. The Mac Ride and the Shotgun also have rubberized straps that can be adjusted to fit closely against the child’s foot.
