About this deal

The Wraith Spire sports a circular design and comes with a 92mm fan while the Wraith Max has a square design and also comes with a 92mm fan. I'm very impressed by the cooling performance of the Wraith Max. It performed almost on par with the CM 212 EVO in idle and under load.

We don't expect these results to be a complete surprise for many of you, and if anything the Intel box cooler might have done better than expected, though note this was helped by the Ryzen 5 3600 dropping down in frequency a little. Shopping Shortcuts: Installation, however, seems to be a bit of a mixed bag. Some users have found it relatively easy to install, appreciating the convenience it offers. Others, however, have encountered difficulties, specifically with screwing it in and applying the right amount of pressure. It's advisable to exercise caution during installation to avoid any potential mishaps. The Wraith Spire had the highest idle and load temperatures but I was not expecting the Wraith Spire to compete with the CM 212 EVO. After that, you should be all set to install your RGB lighting utility and start customizing the lighting of your cooler. Then with the cooler that comes with the 2600, the Wraith Stealth we see temps hit 72 degrees and now we're getting up there. Ideally you don't want temps going too far beyond 70 degrees for prolonged use. That said you could increase the fan speed for better results as even the Stealth was spinning at just 2000 RPM. I should note though that the Spire and Stealth do a good job of pushing air over the motherboard's VRM. First up I measured peak temperatures after 30 minutes of gameplay during our Overwatch bot match stress test. Using the Wraith Prism saw the 2600 peak at just 47 degrees which is very cool and the VRM never exceeded 43 degrees, these are exceptional temperatures for a reasonably heavy gaming load, speaking of which CPU utilization hovers around 50% in this test. Because of these low temps the Prism fan never spun faster than 1600 RPM and at that speed it's virtually silent. The next issue we ran into was fan speed. Typically, Intel box coolers are noisy buggers that spin very fast. Last time we tested one with the Core i7-8700 on a Z390 board it spun at between 3000 - 3500 RPM. On the Phantom Gaming-ITX the fan never spun faster than 2100 RPM which is an issue for the Intel cooler as it relies on fan speed to keep temperatures under control, or at least stops the CPU from melting through the PCB. We messed around for quite some time but couldn't get the fan to spin at full speed for more than a few seconds.

In terms of noise, the general consensus is positive. Several users have praised its quiet operation, describing it as barely noticeable. This makes it a viable option for those who value a noise-free computing experience. The Wraith Stealth saw the Ryzen processor hit 90 degrees and that's far from ideal, at this temperature the R5 3600 still maintained 4050 MHz but it had to be close to dropping down to 4000 MHz, as this is the very frequency we saw with the copper version of Intel's box cooler and it only ran a degree hotter.Intel has always bundled their processors with garbage coolers that most people simply throw away because they are extremely loud and do a terrible job of cooling. With the release of the Ryzen processors, AMD has also released a new line of Wraith Coolers which feature incredibly 92mm quiet fans, customizable RGB lighting and improved cooling performance. Regarding aesthetics and looks, while not a critical factor for a CPU cooler, it's worth noting that many users have not commented on its appearance. This suggests that the cooler's design is rather unobtrusive, blending well with various PC setups. For Ryzen 5 2600 owners it will net you Wraith Prism-like performance when gaming though it's worth noting that the 120mm fan does a much better job of cooling the VRM on our X470 board. The Gammaxx 200T also appears to be a decent upgrade option for R5 2600X and R7 2700 owners. The new Wraith Coolers with the exception of the Wraith Stealth feature color-configurable LED illumination so you can tweak the LED of your cooler to match your overall build color scheme.
