The Genius Gems was launched in November 2021 and has won the Bronze Medal at the UK Independent Toy Awards.Harrison (12): It is clever that there is always a way to complete it. You do get to know the pieces and the patterns that work well together. Games are always really close. It’s good and I like playing it with my brothers. The board itself is a 6x6 grid; the numbers along the top and letters on the left hand side corresponding to the combinations of letters and numbers on the dice. To start each game you roll all seven dice and using those results, place the seven wooden pegs onto the board. For example, if you rolled A1, A2, B4, C6, E1 and F1, then you would place them on those squares. It’s very important if playing with someone else to make sure your grids match each other, so take a second or two to do so. Once that’s done, you are ready to play. Gameplay The next thing to consider when choosing toys for children is what do we want them to learn? Do we want them to learn about animals? About colors? About counting? These are all important topics that you may want your child exposed to from an early age so that they can begin learning about these things before school starts and continue learning throughout the year. Educational toys play a big role in this, as they keep on introducing and nurturing children with educational topics, their surroundings, life skills and many more. A really fun game to challenge yourself or your friends. A game that gets your brain working and one that can be completed in under a minute so you can easily play several rounds without getting bored. When you have a game called The Genius Square, it sounds all rather complicated, doesn’t it? A game where you must possess a genius level IQ to even think about playing? No, it is a very interesting and fun game to play, and game that can happily be played by players from the age of 6. The genius of the game is that there will always be at least one solution.

George (9): I might not win all the time but I do like The Genius Square. It looks a bit like Tetris and I like how it changes each time with the dice rolls. As I said above, I’ve yet to play a game that has bested me. The blurb on the box says that each of the over 62,000 games has a solution. Sometimes more than one. Of all the games I’ve played, which must be over 100 by now, only once did all the players come up with exactly the same solution. And that was the game that took the longest to win, so we all agreed that was likely the only solution. The Genius Square has a possible 62,208 puzzles to complete, so you can be playing for years to come. And each of the 62,208 puzzles has at least one way to solve it – there will never be a puzzle that can’t be solved.

If you like a challenge to get those brain cells firing and want a game that can be played solo or together, then I can highly recommend The Genius Square from The Happy Puzzle Company. The Genius Square is a very Happy Puzzle indeed (and there is even an XL version of the game if you like to play your games on a bigger scale). This game is good for people who like a challenge and have a competitive spirit! It’s got many benefits from playing and is also just really fun. It’s also a great game if you’re on the go because it’s such a small box that it’s really easy to transport Are there any learning or benefits to the game?

For example, if you are buying a toy for a toddler that is too advanced, they may get bored and turn to other activities while they wait for the toy to be played with. Thus, early learning toys are appropriate for toddlers, instead of too complex toys. There are definitely learning benefits from Genius Square! It will help you learn to see patterns and teach your brain great spatial awareness skills. What’s great about the game? The game comes with two boards so that two players can race to see who completes the puzzle fastest. But you know me; I think that speed adds unnecessary stressandcan rob a game of its mathematical depth. So I recommend that you try a variation: One player tries to fill in the board, and then the second player tries to fill in the board in a way that is totally distinct. You can see two filled boards (mine and my son's) in this photo. I'm sure there are many more than two solutions to this puzzle! Where's the Math? As a fan of cooperative games over competitive, I bend the rules a little when I play. Rather than playing against each other, we play against the game with a round not ending until all players have solved the current puzzle. While we are limited to just three players, there is really no limit to how many players can actually take part as long as you have enough copies of the game. Two copies will allow four players to take part and, unless you are hosting a massive Genius Square games night, that should be suitable for most households. Final Thoughts I don’t regularly pull it from the shelf to play with my wife, we’ve got better two player games. It is fun however, when the kids set it down in front of me, and I like the challenge of it.
