I appreciate that this book’s message isn’t achieved by overemphasizing the bad, but by simply presenting the realities of being addicted, including the good parts that make the lifestyle so addictive.Egan swiftly traces its astonishing spread and then its downfall in Indiana, after Stephenson did something too distasteful even for the Klan: he murdered a white woman, and got caught.

What was once a dynamic bond between the four is now rapidly crumbling apart, and it is put upon them to fix this before it is too late. You grow into deeper relationships with the characters and learn some more background about each one of them. Despite their well-polished exteriors, they are all catapulting quickly toward destruction — and they don’t even know it yet. In Gripped Part 2, now we get to know each character more in depth and be able to understand them on a personal level, and mid way through addiction.
