About this deal

Installation can be a major issue, partially because the shape is very complex and doesn’t lend itself to mounting alternatives. We didn’t get a chance to hear this horn, because it was inoperative out of the box when brand new.

If you consider yourself a creative person who loves solving problems and wants the mother of all compact horns, this is the project for you Cycles without radiators won’t have a problem finding a spot on the frame I bought my second from … in Feb., 2012, and also had no problem with that on my Victory Cross Country Tour this year. If you don’t have the room to be able to do that then, yep, I’d go for something else. Given that I have been able to do that, however, I’ve been very pleased with the Stebel.” For use off the road, there are a number of “funny” car horns that are available. Personally, the all time favorite and the best funny car horn has to be the Dixie horn, which is a car horn everyone loves. I go to the beach a couple of times a week and on the way out stop by local car wash to rinse off salt and sand. Upon first washing after installing S horn, the horn quit working. At first I did not suspect the bike washing, but later determined that must be the problem-although I tried to be careful around the horn, I must have accidentally squirted those naked air ports with water.Apparently, the Nautilus can fail early, suddenly or unexpectedly after an indeterminate amount of time. The photos showing the Stebel horn installed are too dark. I've included several angles, so hopefully you can tell what I've done. Although OEM car horns can be bought from the dealerships, they often come with an expensive price tag. OEM horn replacements are fine if you don’t want to increase the noise, but if you are reading this article, you are probably interested in the loudest on the market. If this is the case, you have the option of choosing a loud car horn with or without a compressor. The benefit of choosing a horn with a compressor is that it’ll be much louder.

I would estimate the Stebel horn on the VFR has seen roughly 15,000 miles from sweltering summers to cold winters and wet spring/autumn days.

Aftermarket Car Horn Comparison

Here is a gallery of the images in various sizes, in case you want to see the original huge (2.5 MB) image.

One of the 12 gauge red wires that is connected to the relay goes directly to the positive terminal on the new horn. The other gets connected to the switched red wire as described in the above linked "12V Power Outlet" tutorial, as shown here.We didn’t even get a chance to run the big, red Stebel Nautilus Max through the sound level meter, so it’s uncertain how it would score against the other horns in this comparison article. It did seem loud while it lasted though, but it has an “air horn” quality that not everyone likes The Wolo (519) Bad Boy is a popular replacement car horn that the brand claims is twice as loud as factory horns. It’s a one piece construction that’s easy to install and a direct replacement for many factory horns. In terms of the loudness, the brand states that it outputs at 118 dB using a powerful dual tone. Additionally, the horn gets exercised 2-3 times a week to let cagers know I’m right beside you so quit coming over into my lane. As you can see from the image below, they do become fairly corroded overtime. This horn was replaced from a 20 year old vehicle and it took just a few minutes to switch over the part. There are a variety of car horns available from small to large and its just a matter of preference and whether the horn is compatible. I have two, one that has been on a ’96 Honda VFR750 for a little more than two years and one that I just recently installed on a ’07 Buell XB12S.

The choice of noise outputs between horns differ but most people simply require a direct replacement but there are others wanting the loudest car horn possible. The relay and the horn, both have a ground wire. I saw in another post that the ground wire from the relay goes to the negative part of the battery..is that correct? what about the ground wire from the horn?I'm very excited because, I have a 50cc 2Stroke engine LXV and just bought the Nautilus horn and the 12V outlet and am eager on modding my LXV ...
