Among the men featured are Alan Pardew, Garry Monk, Mark Hughes, England U21 caretaker coach Aidy Boothroyd and that great hope of the English coaching fraternity, Eddie Howe. More of a manual than an autobiography but jam-packed with Gullit’s acute insights, original observations and talking points, How to Watch Football will be one of the go to football books for any armchair pundit. Hornby doesn’t hold back from elucidating how irrational the life of a football fan can become as the fixtures begin to govern his own relationships with those close to him.An intelligent, thoughtful and compassionate man, who uses his status to achieve goodness in the world, this book is a very enjoyable read. After Ari comes across a rare trading card of his football hero Wayne Timcoe, and he is picked as goalie for the team, he’s certain that the card has brought him luck.
