Una historia muy bonita y repleta de valores, eso encontramos en este tomo único que gustará tanto a fans de Nagabe como a los que se inician con el autor. The only fault that Monotone Bluehas is that it isn’t a full series. With two compelling characters that begin working through the emotions and hang-ups with connecting to others, I want more. It feels like the story just ends with so much more to be said between the two. Having reached across their insecurities it feels too unresolved not even to get a small epilogue. While sex scenes are nowhere to be found, there are scenes that some might find unsettling. Poor Aoi was a victim of bullying in a previous school and there are moments when it looks like he's about to be SA'd. Whether you dislike lizards or not, you WILL want to go into protective parent/guardian mode for him. Every time I see his eyes well up with tears, I wanna cry too. And maybe throw hands at anyone who would hurt him... But what really makes Monotone Blue stand out as a romance manga, and as a manga about anthropomorphic animals in school, is the way Nagabe cultivates atmosphere in the world of the story. The wide, empty panels and closeups on hands and tails instead of faces create a sense of isolation and intimacy simultaneously. Aoi and Hachi are both uncomfortable in the school environment, but together they manage to create a space where they can feel safe.
