About this deal

Cheap PNY 8GB commodity drive. Thing was so damned slow I changed it to 512GB and only ran 1 pass. Thats not a mistake, the random write tests are slow low as to not even register. RND4KQ32T16 is something like .0003MB/s. The ultra-slim aluminum case paired with an ABS frame brings to the table not just style but remarkable durability. The supported SSD sizes are 2242, 2260, and 2280. The maximum speed you can get with this enclosure is 1000 MB/s. No additional drivers are required for installation because it is completely a Plug-and-play device. I've got a Shinestar NVMe enclosure, but it tops out around 1GB and I know these drives go faster when plugged directly into an M2 slot. When I look at the military-grade toughness, it translates to a robust build quality, fulfilling the MIL-STD-810H standards for drop resistance, alongside boasting an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. This promises enhanced durability, potentially making the enclosure a long-lasting companion for users, safeguarding the housed SSD from common environmental adversities.

We actually like these because often, you often get a robust heat sink on the M.2 drive. Some PCI Express-bus M.2 SSDs can run hot under sustained read/write tasks and throttle their speed. That said, unless you're running a server or something similar, where a drive is constantly getting hammered with reads and writes, that's usually not something you have to worry about. That's because many of these drives are so fast, they get their transfer duties done before they have a chance to get all that hot. Generally if the drive is readable I'll boot off a custom WinPE disk I built and run USMT to salvage the user profile data to a compressed MIG store. Then I'll replace the drive or laptop, re-image, and restore the salvaged profile. So the faster the drive is the faster I can complete these tasks. Which makes users happier. I've been using a M2 Sata enclosure, but I also have 2.5" external cables that let me plug a 2.5" directly into a USB port.

They're The Same!?

I am all for tool-free installations, and this enclosure does not disappoint in this regard. The setup is a breeze, involving just plugging the SSD into the M.2 NVMe USB adapter and securing it with a rubber plug. This is why it’s in the third position in our list of best M.2 SSD enclosures. Here’s a list of the top-rated and best NVMe enclosures and best SATA enclosures. They are also affordable. Let’s just get started without further discussion.

These enclosures can be used as external accessories to our smartphones, tablets, and other devices like gaming consoles, computers, and smartphones. Simply insert your M.2 SSD into these enclosures, and then connect them to your computer using USB cables. The ADATA XPG Spectrix S40 is an unapologetically bright RGB-lit PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD that blings up your PC. Its 4K read and write speeds should keep most gamers happy, too. The ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G carries some respectable wins out of its duel with other competing drives we've tested, and it looked great doing it. The ultra-slim aluminum alloy sandblasted shell not only confers a sleek and durable look but is designed with portability in mind, making it an ideal companion for travelers. Utilizing the latest USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface, this ORICO M.2 Enclosure supports the UASP acceleration protocol, ensuring a theoretical data transmission speed that reaches up to 10Gbps. It is imperative to note that when coupled with high-performance NVMe media, the read/write performance has the potential to surpass 900 Mbytes/sec. In the box, you’ll find USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables.Welcome to the cutting edge! You're shopping for a kind of drive that many folks don't even realize exists. As a result, you need to pay attention to several factors that may not be documented very well while you shop. Let's recap. The ASUS TUF Gaming A1 enclosure is another premium option for those looking for the toughest enclosure out there. The good thing about this enclosure is that it supports both M.2 SATA and M.2 NVMe drives. This one is the best M.2 SSD Enclosure for everybody who wants ASUS’s reliability but at a little higher price point. This is one of the most performant 10 Gbps enclosures and one of the most convenient, thanks to a tool-free design that allows you to slip the cover off by pressing a spring-loaded switch. It's a few dollars more than the Sabrent EC-SNVE at present and we prefer that enclosure's flip-up lid to the Plugble's slide-out one. If you want an SSD enclosure with some RGB bling and a swanky sci-fi design, Asus’s ROG Strix Arion is for you. The M.2 NVMe enclosure has two RGB lights, an illuminated ROG logo on the top and a small plastic fin on the side. These show a pleasing pink and purplish light show which Asus markets as being part of its “Aura Sync” RGB ecosystem. However, there doesn’t seem to be any way to actually control the lights as the Asus Armoury Crate software we tested with did not recognize the drive.
