About this deal

Before long, they’ve departed Penzance, heading north in Len’s (rusty) teal 1971 Austin Maxi, armed with spreadsheets, a laminated agenda, a shoebox of jokes on Post-its, and Google maps: via Barnstaple, Swansea and Bournemouth, checking out father candidates and entering talent contests and open mic opportunities, hopeful of a Performance Slot in Edinburgh. When he was the other half of your comedy duo - the Morecombe to your Wise, Ronnie Corbett to your Ronnie Barker? Over the course of the book, the two learn that grief need not define their lives; the message is that joy can always be found, even following the depths of sorrow (Hilary D). What do you get when you cross a painfully awkward son, lofty comedic ambition and a dead best friend? Norman is 12 years old when his best friend and comedy partner Jax dies, ending their 'Five-Year Plan' to do a stand-up show at the Edinburgh Fringe by the time they're fifteen.

Norman Foreman isn’t your average 12 year old, he’s never ever had a friend, until the day Jax Fenton came into his life. An uplifting novel with a delightful cast of characters, I couldn’t recommend this novel highly enough! When Jax dies before they turn twelve, Norman decides paying tribute to his best friend just can’t wait. If you're after a heart-warming book filled to the brim with hope and humanity, then Julietta Henderson's charming The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman should be your next read .

For every 3,999 other babies that come out with everything tucked in neatly and sealed away exactly where it should be, there's one like me. Sadie is caught off-guard by Norman’s announcements, but seeing him get excited about something, anything, makes it impossible for her to refuse to go along with his plan. There were a few moments when I did laugh, but most of the humor didn’t work for me, and I was especially unimpressed with the word usage and overall characterization of one of the dad candidates. I know it’s selfish to worry about myself when Mum has to look after me and go to work and cook dinners and wash our clothes and pay the leccy bill and all that other stuff. The story, which centres on 12-year-old psoriasis-suffering Norman’s quest to find his birth father and secure and fulfill a slot at Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe, a road trip from his home in Penzance, Cornwall up through England and Wales into Scotland, is in many ways one of those giddily possible adventures of destinies oriented that make books in this genre such a sweet delight. This one's not due for publication until 18th Feb 2021 but I'm expecting big things for Julietta and Norman. He is the cleaner at the company where Sadie works and the two have become firm friends, united in their distaste of the boss.
