About this deal

In 1963 a total of 226,252 Pelham Puppets were produced making it a record year for the number of puppets produced. Make an Elmer the elephant using a milk jug and coloured tissue paper squares! A great craft for kids to go along with a much-loved story book which can be used as a story prop or puppet too. The first two sets of characters were the Alice in Wonderland range and the Cinderella range of characters. They were designed mainly by Gill Leeper. He was a master wood carver and design artist. His work is very distinctive and is easily recognised by the caricatured, exaggerated and pronounced features such as the Ugly sisters and the Mad Hatter. ( It was rumoured that some of his designs were caricatures of some of the people who worked within the factory!) Do you like elephants? It’s amazing that despite being the largest mammals on land, elephants are considered cute, especially baby elephants!
