Great for retelling the story, you can use them to assess how well your children know the key events by asking them to act out the plot using the stick puppets. Represent ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role-play and stories. To listen attentively, anticipate key events and respond to the story using role-play, songs and models. Begin to understand some simple characteristics of good fiction: good and naughty characters; a problem or difficulty to solve; a beginning and an ending.

I hid the farm animal cards all around the room and let the boys go on a “get the blood pumping – brain break” animal hunt! I pre-cut Little Blue, the background, and set out supplies for our “mud in action” splatter art project. They talked about the products that came from animals, eggs coming from chickens, bacon (from pigs), toast and, butter from the cow.To create and record their own narratives in response to ‘Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car’ and their own experiences of car journeys. I printed some of the extra pumpkin farm picture cards and used dry erase markers for a quick contraction match activity for Jordan. Listen to some classic tales of journeys taken by familiar characters such as Rosie the Hen; The Gruffalo; Little Red Riding Hood; Mr Gumpy; Toad, Mole, Ratty and Badger.
