About this deal

The first volume out of four in Bloodborne graphic novel adaptation by Aleš Kot and Piotr Kowalski (illustrator) was mostly good. I think the texts and the artworks successfully nailed the atmosphere of Bloodborne well. But I will also admit that the graphic novel fell short of my expectation. The cryptic messages and stories did not seem to work nicely in graphic novel format. A graphic novel has many challenges to overcome to get what made the story and world-building in Bloodborne so damn good. First, it is too short. Second, to be fair, the details and revelations that we attained from brief NPC dialogues and item descriptions in the game can't be replicated. Moments of "ah-ha!" and "wow" that I constantly had during my playthroughs were completely missing.

After discovering an item called "Eye of a Blood-Drunk Hunter", the player learns of the Hunter's Nightmare, where Hunters are cursed to wander, drunk with blood. While travelling through Yharnam, the player is pulled into the Hunter's Nightmare, populated by both beasts and long-crazed Hunters, by a lesser Amygdala. The player can meet Simon the Harrowed Hunter, who tells them that the Nightmare serves as a prison for hunters who have succumbed to madness and the scourge. Simon can assist the player throughout their travels. The player first visits the Nightmare Church, where they encounter and kill the first Church Hunter, Ludwig the Holy Blade, now a horse-like beast known as Ludwig the Accursed. After the battle, the player can either tell the dying Ludwig what has become of the Church and Yharnam or let him die believing that Yharnam has defeated the curse. The player can also kill the founder of the Healing Church, Laurence the First Vicar, after finding him on an altar in the Nightmare version of the grand cathedral, now transformed into a burning Cleric Beast. It will also include interviews with notable Bloodborne community members such as Bloodborne speedrun world-record holder Chase ‘Genso’ Morrissey, and Lilith Walther, the creator of the ‘demake’ Bloodborne PSX.I wasn't sure what to expect from this going in, and I definitely wasn't expecting to love it nearly as much as I ended up loving it. The art is gorgeous, and I'd honestly recommend it for that alone if you're a fan of Bloodborne and/or great horror art. But the story and narrative hold up really well, too. In my opinion, it captures the vibe and atmosphere of Bloodborne perfectly. Unfortunately, this document is only aimed at people who have finished (all three endings of) the game.

The writing, and the dialogue, fall spectacularly short, unable to replicate the voice of the world. The art, while beautiful and well drawn, also has this fault. Too bright, too clean, too sparse to properly reflect the dark waking nightmare. Koch, Cameron. "Latest Bloodborne Comic Series Launches July 27, Get A Sneak Peek". GameSpot. IMPORTANT: Hello, are you new to Bloodborne? Or, maybe you're a Bloodborne veteran and you're just reading this for the first time? But what if they have another cause to fight for? What if there's something else that the Hunter can do to escape the nightmare? The answers lie far beyond Yharnam's walls, away from the Hunter's Dream, in an old fishing village. All the Hunter has to do...is get there. I saw The Paleblood Hunt being recommended to people who finished the game and wanted to understand it more and I was not disappointed. It is a combination of an encyclopedia and speculative world-building. Each chapter presents the readers with "solid facts" -- pieces of dialogue or other knowledge that's explicitly in the game. And follows up with the author's interpretation of said facts, building a picture of what happened, who these beings were and why they did what they did.
