About this deal

Power consumption (Idle) Max. 55 mW * Actual power consumption may vary depending on system hardware & configuration We didn’t get a chance to test out Samsung’s power efficiency claims on mobile devices, as our test Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 uses a shorter M.2 form factor rather than the 2280 size of the 990 Pro.

With the 990 Pro, Samsung has regained its speed crown, and this is arguably one of the fastest, if not the fastest, drives on the market today. And that’s without the company even switching to the even faster PCIe Gen 5 specifications! On the other hand, the 3,645 points it scores in PCMark 10 storage is very impressive compared to other drives tested on the same AMD platform running an eight-core 3800X CPU. Most if not all the competition is around the 3,000 mark. It’s also a huge jump on the 2,700 points scored by the old Samsung 980 Pro, albeit that figure is for the 1TB model. Just note that CPU and broader platform performance do impact the overall PCMark storage result. So, you can’t compare that result with random PCMark storage scores you might find for other drives on the web.Random Read (4KB, QD1) Up to 22,000 IOPS * Performance may vary based on system hardware & configuration

Pay for your phone and an inclusive bundle of calls, texts and data in one easy-to-manage monthly fee. In addition to the general SSD, Samsung will also offer configurations of the 990 Pro with Heatsink that will come with RGB lighting for gamers. Gamers will be able to control the RGB lighting effects on the 990 Pro Heatsink versions using Samsung’s desktop Magician Software. We didn’t get an opportunity to test out Samsung’s 990 Pro with Heatsink as part of this review, but according to the company’s claims, you should still get similar performance with or without Heatsink. g33b4vqccuqwcx5bx22q-p8kovq-e038e0c0c-clientnsv4-s.akamaihd.net, g33b4vqccuqxax5bstpa-p4rsfx-bd0382a30-clientnsv4-s.akamaihd.net, g33b4vqccuqxax5btyeq-poz8cc-9955b8a36-clientnsv4-s.akamaihd.net, g33b4vqxzp4swx5bu27q-pxv1vf-89db7a111-clientnsv4-s.akamaihd.net, g33b4vqxzp4swx5bv25q-pt8447-731cc407d-clientnsv4-s.akamaihd.net, g33b4vsy3wdkax5bswnq-plqmrf-ff7289811-clientnsv4-s.akamaihd.net, g33b4vsy3wdkex5bsuoq-p56ka1-9bf23f300-clientnsv4-s.akamaihd.net, Random Write (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,550,000 IOPS * Performance may vary based on system hardware & configuration DirectStorage technology from Microsoft loads games faster than before by leveraging the multiple GB/sec speed of modern NVMe SSDs.

Depending on your setup, the 990 Pro delivers solid thermal management. The Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Hero WiFi motherboard on our Falcon Northwest Talon review unit comes with a heatsink bar that goes over the SSD to help passively dissipate heat, and the tower’s case design provides plenty of airflow for active cooling. With our setup, Samsung’s software detected that the heat output is just 43 degrees Celcius, or about 109 degrees Fahrenheit.
