Incluye ensayos, artículos periodísticos, discursos, y algún relato de su vida personal en defensa de las aves. Oh I forgot there are also some hilariously crotchety thoughts in here about technology, like literally he is mad when people end cell phone conversations with "Love you!"

Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And then one fine morning— Alternatively, this unit could be taught in the Spring term when the shortlist for 2012 is announced. Other book awards could be substituted, for example the UKLA awards, or awards run by local libraries. The first thing I will comment on are the illustrations. They are incredible. Using photographic collage and illustration, this is the first book that Grahame has both written and illustrated and the results are amazing. The illustrations really do bring this picture book to life and the size of the book make it perfect for reading to groups of children. The second essay of note is on autobiographical fiction and contains an interesting and informative insight into Mr. Franzen's working methods. The book is worth reading for this essay alone, especially if you're a writer or interested in the art of writing. Very early in the book it is expressed that things do not go well for the Captain. As we read about his meteoric rise to fame, there's a nagging afterthought that something terrible is about to happen. And indeed it does in time. It's curious to see the politics behind the missions. The absolute necessity to have a win in a time when faith in Britain was failing due to the feud with the colonies. The frivolous, extravagant lifestyle of the novel only makes sense with the assumption the future was taken care of. But it seems like people even during that era suspected it would soon come to an end. Like this popular poem, written in 1920:

A son remembers his father - his dreams of being able to fly as well as spending time together until one day the war takes him away forever. This book tells the story of a father and son and a dream to fly. The father is possessed with an unrelenting desire to fly which he never achieves. When the father goes off to war and doesn’t return, the dream of flying passes on to his son. The self I felt myself to be that day was a self I recognized only because I’d longed for it for so long. I met, in myself, on my first day in New York City, the person I wanted to become." Then there's love. Wallace, apparently, didn't know what love is, just like that singer from Foreigner:A very enjoyable book that maintains good velocity from beginning to end. I was inspired to read this book by the vandalism that has recently been infected upon statues of Cook here in Canada as the country wrestles with the sad news of many unmarked Graves being discovered at the grounds of former residential schools. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - Listened to the audiobook on my commute to and from work this week. It still strikes me as very much a mixed bag--"I Just Called to Say I Love You" especially is a very profound and moving meditation on technology and our interpersonal relationships, and the Christina Stead essay is very good as well. Otherwise, meh. Jonathan Franzen's Freedom was the runaway most-discussed novel of 2010, an ambitious and searching engagement with life in America in the twenty-first century. In The New York Times Book Review, Sam Tanenhaus proclaimed it "a masterpiece of American fiction" and lauded its illumination, "through the steady radiance of its author's profound moral intelligence, [of] the world we thought we knew."
