About this deal
Winner of the Land National Farm Inventor of the year 1996 and another 5 Australian awards. We manufacture the attachments ourselves in Australia from top quality materials. The tynes are made from Bisalloy and max wear and strength then the attachment is zinc coated.
Hone the bevels—A round slip stone is all that’s needed to hone the bevels. Keep in mind that not all mortiser chisels have the same bevel angle. Clico, a British manufacturer, and Asian and Japanese sourced chisels use a 60° bevel angle, while Forest City, a U.S. maker, uses a 45° bevel.Mortisers come in several different types, but they all have the same purpose: to create holes in wood pieces for tenons to fit into. These “mortise and tenon” joints are popular because of the strength they provide to furniture pieces, and, thanks to mortisers like these, are relatively simple to create. If, however, you have only a few small mortises to cut at home for a small project, a drill press equipped with a mortising bit will be a more suitable option and can work. We’ll assume those who are shopping for chain and door mortisers already know what they’re looking for — both are very function-specific tools — so we’ll concentrate on the shop models, which are much more common and have much greater variety. The things you want to consider as you shop include power, construction, capacities, and clamping. Power
To reduce clogging, I spend time tuning up the bore. The smoother the bore, the easier it is for chips to slide up the auger bit. I use a chainsaw file to remove any in ternal burrs or machining grooves. A small, round, tapered slip stone works well for cleaning up the ejection slot. Although you can create mortises the old-fashioned way with a hammer and chisel, or with a drill press by making a series of round holes and then squaring them with a chisel, these dedicated mortisers are designed to give you square mortises with minimal chisel work needed. What to Consider What makes this device so handy is the long handle and smooth gear transmission that creates greater efficiency and speed when setting up and making the cuts you want. Tilt: Several high-end mortisers offer a tilting head, meaning you can cut angled or even compound mortises (ones that tilt through both X and Y axes). ClampingAs with all woodworking machines, the more rigid it is, the more repeatable accuracy you’ll have. It should also be more durable.
