About this deal

James is deeply fascinated by the many different kinds of police work, especially how it tends to change over time. His research on the Grace novels, he claims, has given him insight into the daily life of a detective. What are the Roy Grace books all about? A: The first book in the Roy Grace series is called Dead Simple, which focuses on a stag party gone wrong. Discover the darkness that lurks around every corner in the latest instalment of the award-winning Grace series, now a major ITV series.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy of Stop Them Dead, the nineteenth novel to feature Detective Superintendent Roy Grace of Sussex Police. There doesn't seem to be an upcoming book in The Roy Grace Series. The newest book is Stop Them Dead and was released on September, 28th 2023. The nefarious villains who became embroiled in the story were implausible and their attempts to steal the painting were ridiculous in the extreme.

At the same time, Roy Grace and his team are working on a cold case of a murdered art dealer from 2015. Could there be a connection between their case and the appearance of this masterpiece? There is somebody out there that will stop at nothing to get their hands in this piece of art, and I mean nothing. There is murder, burglars, master forgers, a fire and so so much more. Stop Them Dead” is the latest novel in the long running Roy Grace series by Peter James. Offering very much the same as earlier novels in the series, this will please ongoing readers. It’s also very accessible to readers new to the series. Peter James has excelled in his research for this book. I was totally drawn into the world of fine art and art forgery and found myself googling the masterpieces and famous forgers. Meg Magellan's daughter is off on a gap year in South America, and she welcomes a stint on jury duty as a distraction. Unfortunately, she's assigned to the trial of a drug lord – and just a few days into the trial, she gets a call saying she needs to ensure a not guilty verdict if she ever wants to see her daughter again. Grace never loses sight of the fact he’s investigating a murder, which underlines how ruthless the criminals he’s seeking are. They’re only interested in profit, and don’t care who gets hurt along the way.

For years, Harry and Freya dreamed of finding a valuable hidden treasure at a car boot sale. They didn't think it likely, of course, but they could hope. Michael’s desperate and attractive fiancée, Ashley Harper, seeks Superintendent Roy Grace for his help, hoping to find her husband-to-be before the wedding in three days. When a young farmer confronts intruders in the middle of the night he has no idea that just minutes later he will be left dying in a pool of blood. What's more chilling is what the perpetrators were willing to kill for. At the scene of the crime, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace soon realises this is no isolated robbery gone wrong but the tip of the iceberg of a nationwide crime wave, in which ruthless organised gangs are making more money from the illegal trade in dogs than drugs. As will Sandy, I don’t know if there’s a forgiveness for what she did, but it appears we are going to be given a chance to find out, as at the end of this book, it’s said ‘Sandy’s story’ will be the next book to come out. DS Roy Grace is sure Brian Bishop murdered his socialite wife. The only problem? He was sixty miles away, asleep in bed at the time of the murder. Has someone stolen Bishop's identity, or is he just a very clever killer?

Book 17 | Left You Dead

A synopsis for the book said: “When a young farmer confronts intruders in the middle of the night he has no idea that just minutes later he will be left dying in a pool of blood. What’s more chilling is what the perpetrators were willing to kill for. Discover the darkness that lurks around every corner in the latest instalment of Peter James’s award-winning detective series, which is now a major ITV programme starring John Simm as Roy Grace. A farmer is killed when confronting intruders who complete the successful robbery of some unusual items. Organised criminal gangs have identified a new market and are willing to do what it takes to make money. Roy Grace is determined to stop it.

James’ novels are notable for the great detail around the investigation. In particular, there’s a level of detail around the roles of particular police specialists, and the command structure, which I’ve rarely seen elsewhere. It adds both credibility and an interesting intellectual and practical level to the narrative. This explanation gives a very helpful insight into the mind of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, a new kind of detective who is going through turmoil in his own life, as well as trying to prevent it from happening in the lives of others. Desperate to escape a bad marriage, Lorna Belling falls for another man she hopes will rescue her. Unfortunately, things don't work out according to plan. When a young farmer confronts intruders in the middle of the night he has no idea that just minutes later he will be left dying in a pool of blood. What’s more chilling is what the perpetrators were willing to kill for.

Peter J. James (born 22 August 1948) is a British writer of crime. He was born in Brighton, the son of Cornelia James, the former glovemaker to Queen Elizabeth II.

Millard, Rachel (22 September 2015). "Crime writer's wedding bash goes off with a big bang". The Argus . Retrieved 20 May 2021. After being involved in a fatal traffic accident, Carly Chase receives word that the drivers of the other two vehicles have been tortured and murdered. DS Roy Grace has warned her that she could be next. Careful investigation and planning lead to a nail-biting conclusion and I was on the edge of my seat, seriously worried about more than one of the police team. I know that Peter James does meticulous research for all of his novels but he has excelled himself this time. Harry and Freya, an ordinary couple, dreamed for years of finding something priceless buried amongst the tat in a car boot sale. In Picture You Dead we meet a couple of men who will do everything to get their hands on some priceless art, and the great thing about the story was for me Peter James makes it clear that you don't get to be a better person when you have an insane amount of money - let alone a happier person. The story of finding a priceless item at a car boot sale is not uncommon; I've watched several times the happy and suprised faces of people on television when being told this 'old painting they found in the attic' was in fact very rare and special. It always pleases me to see when people then decide to keep it, because it belonged to a loved family member.Peter James' eighteenth Roy Grace novel brings his readers right into the high stakes world of antique art. James explained that, in his experience, a majority of policemen and policewomen enjoy their work, even though they have to work insane hours, deal with the bureaucracy, and face horrible tragedies, as well as the internal politics of the system. But he also explains that those experiences are the reason that police workers look at the world differently than everyone else. Peter James has won literary awards and been shortlisted for tens of prizes. These are the most notable ones. In 2006, James clinched the Prix Polar International, thanks to his 2005 book called Dead Simple. In 2016, James’s Roy Grace series clinched Dead Good Read Award, in the category of the Best Series; and won the same award in 2015 for his 2015 novel named You Are Dead. James bagged the CAWA Dagger Award in 2016 and was shortlisted twice (2015 and 2009). He clinched WH Smith Award in 2005, Krimi-Blitz prize (2005), Crime Thriller Awards (2011), and US Barry Award (2012). Roy Grace Books into Movies This felt a lot more realistic and likely than some of the other Grace novels (which I have loved nevertheless) - but we have all become much more aware of puppy farms and the prices some people are willing to pay for a 'pedigree' . It isnt always an easy read, some of the settings for the puppies are heart-breaking and all too real. There are virtually 80 editions of the first book in the serialized Roy Grace. However, its first edition was initially published in 2005, titled Dead Simple; and this book is classified under the mystery, crime, fiction, and thriller genres. As the title of the series shows, Roy Grace is the featured central character. Roy Grace is a sensible, attentive, shrewd, compassionate, and personable middle-aged man. A Sussex-based detective superintendent, he is attached to criminal investigation department. He has since lost his beloved wife and, subsequently, is yet to surmount his grief after she strangely disappeared many years previously. Roy has a propensity for seeking supernatural assistance.
