I plug it in as soon as I get into the office in the morning and the floor is warm within 30 minutes. Safe on all floor finishes over a concrete subfloor (or similar). Please note that underlay is strongly recommended in all situations and essential on hard floors such as tiles, wood, laminate, and vinyl. Occasionally, on really cold, un-insulated, floors, customers say they get best results by using an insulating underlay. The first is to lay the RugBuddy on an insulating underlay so all that lovely warmth doesn’t disappear through the floor. Most manufacturers wouldn’t recommend putting a heat source on the floor so the underlay isolates the heater from the floor. One thing you can’t do with any of these under rug floor heaters is use them outside. If you want a similar device for outdoors, consider a heated snow melting mat instead. It will be far more durable, and can stand up to the weather. 4. The RugBuddy is available in four sizes: 93” x 63”, 81” x 58”, 58” x 34”, and an 89” x 22” runner pad. RugBuddy recommends taping the corners of the pad to your rug pad to keep it in position.
