About this deal

This series of short clips may be used as a starter to introduce children to the properties of solids, liquids and gases.

Evaporation is a type of vaporization that occurs on the surface of a liquid as it changes into the gas phase. [1] High concentration of the evaporating substance in the surrounding gas significantly slows down evaporation, such as when humidity affects rate of evaporation of water. [2] When the molecules of the liquid collide, they transfer energy to each other based on how they collide. When a molecule near the surface absorbs enough energy to overcome the vapor pressure, it will escape and enter the surrounding air as a gas. [3] When evaporation occurs, the energy removed from the vaporized liquid will reduce the temperature of the liquid, resulting in evaporative cooling. [4] a b Silberberg, Martin A. (2006). Carbon dioxide is a commonly known gas which is used in the production of fizzy drinks. As children will most likely have tried fizzy drinks it is a great experiement which will excite them to understand more about the properties of gases.

Liquid with high boiling points (those that boil at very high temperatures) tend to evaporate more slowly than those with lower boiling temperatures. [1] ln ⁡ ( P 2 P 1 ) = − Δ H v a p R ( 1 T 2 − 1 T 1 ) {\displaystyle \ln \left({\frac {P_{2}}{P_{1}}}\right)=-{\frac {\Delta H_{\rm {vap}}}{R}}\left({\frac {1}{T_{2}}}-{\frac {1}{T_{1}}}\right)}Use this simple activity to encourage children to start thinking about the different states of matter. They look for examples of solids, liquids and ... Evaporation happens on a global scale. Alongside condensation and precipitation, evaporation is one of the three main steps in the Earth’s water cycle. Evaporation accounts for 90 percent of the moisture in the Earth’s atmosphere; the other 10 percent is due to plant transpiration. Hey, I'm Drippy! Did you know that on a global scale, the amount of water evaporating is about the same as the amount of water precipitating? Evaporation drives the water cycle Online calculator, figures and tables with water saturation (vapor) pressure at temperatures ranging 0 to 370 °C (32 to 700°F) - in Imperial and SI Units. Use this PowerPoint to develop children’s knowledge of states of matter and changes of state. It explains the processes of evaporation and ...
