About this deal

All new drivers learning to drive need to display a green sign (or a red plate if driving with a driving school) with the text " övningskörning" (driving practice) and need to drive with a supervisor who needs to be at least 24 years of age has been a licensed driver for at least 5 consecutive years during the last 10 years. [14] After passing both the theoretical and practical driving tests, the driver gets a provisional license for two years. If a holder of a provisional license commits a violation that would result in a suspension of a normal drivers license, the license is revoked, and the driver must retake the driving tests to be reinstated. By law, every learner driver must display L plates on their vehicle. Not doing so – or not displaying them correctly – could result in up to six penalty points on your licence. How many L plates do you need on a car? European Union (3 November 1998). "Council Regulation (EC) No 2411/98 of 3 November 1998 on the recognition in intra-Community traffic of the distinguishing sign of the Member State in which motor vehicles and their trailers are registered" . Retrieved 22 October 2007.

You will see cars marked with special plates displayed on the front and rear windows of the vehicle. These coloured letters mean that there is a new driver behind the steering wheel. It is the teacher's responsibility to affix the L-plate before each lesson and to remove it after the lesson, therefore the L-plates are usually printed on PVC panels with magnetic base, which eases affixing and removal. Similar to third-party, but also covers you against your motor vehicle being stolen, or damaged by fire. Comprehensive insuranceIf you build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of three years, you’ll be liable to be disqualified under the 'totting-up' system. This is shown on your licence as TOT UP. Information on your driving entitlement and endorsements are sent to the courts and police if asked. Course costs will vary on location. The virtual course lasts about two and a half hours and is delivered and managed by appointed contractors. To use a motor vehicle on the road, you must have a valid insurance policy. This must at least cover you for injury or damage to a third party while using that motor vehicle.

You must pass the theory test (if one is required) and then a practical driving test for the category of vehicle you wish to drive before driving unaccompanied. The maximum permitted speed for a motor car or category A1 motorcycle displaying R plates is 45 mph (72km/h), whether or not the vehicle is being driven by a restricted driver. The speed restriction does not apply to A2 or A motorcycles, although R plates must be displayed for the first year after passing the test.

Details

All new drivers in the United Kingdom, upon receipt of a provisional licence, must display L plates at all times and be accompanied by another driver who is over 21 years of age and has held a full and valid licence for the type of vehicle being driven for at least three years. In Wales either red L plates or red D plates ( Welsh: dysgwr, 'learner') are permitted, due to the bilingual legislation in force within the country, while a learner is driving the vehicle. [15] There are several restrictions on the new driver. For the first three months after receiving the license, he may drive only if there is an experienced driver sitting in the front passenger's seat, and the law additionally defines the requirements for the driver to be called "experienced". [9] The charges for violating traffic laws are much more heavy on the new driver; there is a list of traffic law violations that immediately cancel the new driver's license. [10] Additional limitations apply on young drivers: if the new driver is younger than 21 years old, he may not transport more than two passengers without an experienced driver accompanying him in the front passenger's seat. If successful, the court will tell DVA of the decision. You can then apply to renew your driving licence. Mutual recognition of driving disqualifications There are a small number of classroom courses, if the driver does not have the facilities to complete a virtual course. You must do the course within 120 days from the date of detection.

Vehicles. Any vehicle driven by a learner must display red L plates. Plates must conform to legal specifications and must be clearly visible to others from in front of the vehicle and from behind. Plates should be removed or covered when not being driven by a learner (except on driving school vehicles). Probationary plates (more commonly known as P plates) can be used to show that you’re a new driver and have recently passed your test.

So from that it seems clear that it relates to 12 months of driving after passing your first test, so the only way you would need the R plates is if you were banned less than 12 months after passing your FIRST test, in which case you would have to display the R plates until the full 12 months driving has elapsed. If you were banned more than 12 months after you first passed your test than there is no such requirement. Full entitlement to drive all categories of vehicle you previously held on your driving licence will only be reinstated when you pass a test in any one of your previously held entitlements. If you successfully pass a test for entitlement to a category you have not previously held, you’ll get a full driving licence for that category only. After passing your retest A HRO will have to pay a higher fee for a provisional licence and medical examination, the purpose of which is to make sure that he or she does not have any medical condition that may affect suitability to drive. Driving school cars sport a permanent blue and white "L" plate with the word prácticas 'practice' in red. The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has today (Wednesday 22 November) announced a range of tax, benefits and savings measures. We round up the key announcements and what they mean for you.

If you’re disqualified for 56 days or more you’ll need to apply for a licence following disqualification before you can return to driving. You must also ensure that the plates don’t fall off your car while you’re driving. This is why most drivers choose either magnetic or adhesive L plates. What are P plates? You can find out more information in sections 117 to 126 (control of the vehicle) of The Highway Code.
