About this deal

But most of the time, you’ll just sit and revel in the brilliantly accomplished image from a screen that’s far more slender than you might have imagined. Multi View lets you split the TV screen, and watch what's on TV and on your smartphone — without having to look away*. contentsTypeCode":"EM","filePath":"EM/202203/20220312054040001/BN68-11929D-02_Leaflet-Remote_AU9000_XU_ENG_220304.

In the left video, Auto Low Latency Mode is on, so it is smoother, allowing the gamer to play more easily. Where the AU9000 puts clear blue water between itself and its cheaper siblings, though, is with its gaming features.

Both of these step-up features have the potential to be a pretty big deal when it comes to the Holy Grail of getting a decent HDR performance out of a very affordable LCD TV.

Its pictures skew brighter than usual for such an affordable TV, and this joins forces with some serious colour punch to really sell the HDR dream when you’re watching really light images. The 50AU8000’s biggest competition in the UK is arguably from the up and coming Chinese brands Hisense and TCL.The stripped-back ‘major functions’ alternative is nicer to hold and use, and will likely be the default choice for most. Bright scenes look impressively punchy and vibrant for such an affordable TV for instance, especially when it comes to vivid reds and blues, and there’s precious little sign of the ‘bleaching out’ effect in peak bright HDR areas that we often see with affordable LCD screens. Samsung Smart TV lets you access your office PC remotely from your TV and use the large screen to multitask with ease — with a connected mouse, keyboard and PC*. This might help explain why Samsung hasn’t released the AU9000 range in the notoriously hard-nosed US and Australian markets. The Samsung AU9000 TV draws a nice smooth edge, keeping a lid on shimmering or doubling of images even when the on-screen motion gets properly testing.

Short of inside leg measurement, there’s very little it doesn’t want to know about you, which some folks are guaranteed to find off-putting. The Neo QLED backlight won't make any difference to sound quality, but Samsung has another trick up its sleeve for its most high-end sets. But really, it’s as far removed from the standard of the images the Samsung produces as these things ever are. We'd consider the Samsung AU9000 TV a mid-range option, although it's excellent value for money, so is definitely on the lower end of the scale. We've tested close to 40 Samsung TVs so far in 2021 - this is the majority of its 2021 lineup, aside from TVs bigger than 65 inches. One of the trickiest moments of all, right at the start of the film (an airborne camera follows a car up a mountain road from way overhead, while slim blue text scrolls from the bottom to the top of the screen) is handled with real competence – there’s not quite the buttery smoothness that some of Samsung’s pricier televisions will treat you to, but it’s not as if the AU9000 will have you howling with frustration. As it’s solar-powered, this all-in-one energy-saving remote charges on indoor light – and preserves its charge thanks to RF (radio-frequency) power harvesting.

The Samsung Health app lets you enjoy free premium classes, start new wellness routines and even get the whole household moving with family challenges – all from the comfort of your home. The AU9000 delivers on that promise with good images and gaming features – even if it is now more than a year old. This instantly makes the UE50AU9000 a much more compelling option as a monitor for a PS5, Xbox Series X or a PC with a new high-end Nvidia or AMD graphics card – even though the 120Hz support can only be sustained at 1080p resolutions rather than 4K. Whether or not you think its prowess extends to the performance, though, probably depends on what you most use your TV for.
