Ryan Drake Band 1-3: Mission: Vendetta / Der Absturz / Gegenschlag: Drei Actionthriller in einem Band But this is the second novel of his (the first being "Redemption: Ryan Drake”) that wasn’t exactly a disappointment, but wasn’t memorable, and so I probably won’t want to reread it (which is the criterion I look for when awarding 5 stars). If you don’t have the sentence “Then all Hell broke loose.” in your thriller, do they toss you out of the Thriller Writers Union? The experience piqued his interest in military history, and encouraged him to learn more about conflicts past and present. Having always enjoyed writing, he used this research as the basis for his first thriller, REDEMPTION. He was able to supplement this with visits to weapon ranges in America and Eastern Europe, as well as research trips to Washington DC.

I felt this book has been written with a very current world-event narrative that included a WHO medic, a global plague and bio-terrorist created virus. At another time, I might have found it a more thrilling and fictional threat, but given recent events, I did not find the book to be very uplifting. My wife and I read this book together (one of us read aloud while the other would drive or do a chore) and we were surprised at the inconsistent quality of the writing. I have not read the book with the same name by Norman Partridge that this movie is based on, but I have heard the book is good and the premise was intriguing to me, which got me to watch this movie. I think the movie Dark Harvest (2023) could have been better if I did read the book it is based on, because I thought this movie was standard with promising ideas and cool things that could work, but there were things in the movie that were not fully explained, which made certain events that happen seem confusing. I am not going to say it is the movie's fault, because this stuff might have been in the book it is based on, but since I have not read the book, there were things I did not understand.During one particular film shoot he was required to undertake military boot camp training, as he was to play the part of a World War Two soldier, and it was this training that led to his keen interest in military history and the many conflicts that have occurred. It was this interest that led him to research historical conflicts and, with his love of writing having already been ingrained from an early age, he then went onto write his first novel that was to see the introduction of Ryan Drake as a lead character. Other research included visiting Eastern Europe and America, spending time on the weapon ranges there, a journey which also took him to Washington D.C. He lives in Scotland with his wife and two sons, and is currently writing the next novel in the Ryan Drake series. Will Jordan Great question! Yes, Cain is very much the Big Bad of this series, and there were three aspects of his character that were important to me: Time has run out for Ryan Drake. Most of his friends are dead or disappeared. Corrupt CIA Director Marcus Cain is poised to ascend to the highest levels of power, and the shadowy group known as the Circle is causing chaos across the globe. I've never read any of the Ryan Drake series, but if they're even half as good as this one, I am so down. I raise a glass to you, Mr. Jordan/Critical Drinker, because you certainly have a storytelling gift, and I'm thrilled that you've shared it with the world.

The main "hero" is extremely unlikeable and his dialogue is so incredibly cringy its hard to imagine someone would be so rude. Dyatlov Pass here is a mere plot driver in a way that it might have been any other similar place. The concept is neat but not wildly original. Tomorrow’s War recently explored similar theme in a similarly bombastic military action style cinematic bonanza.Sacrifice touches on war and how the pieces of that war can be manipulated for personal gain. It also provides an energetic adventure for battle-hardened operative Drake, a man we’re going to be itching to see more of and it might be a sacrifice worth making.’ I should have probably paid closer attention to the kind of author this was – the kind that writes testosterone driven actioneers for out-of-shape dads who dream in macho everywhere. But no, this book grabbed my attention at Dyatlov Pass and that was it. With the fate of the War on Terror hanging in the balance, loyalties are tested and scores settled, as Drake embarks on the fight of his life. Only one side will survive…

I was hoping more Dyatlov Pass and less military action story. I’m over half way through the audiobook and I keep zoning out. I feel like the Critical Drinker would rip this book new one. This book is just fantastic! It kept me up late three nights in a row. I was so engrossed in the story that I was there in the room with the characters, right from the start. If you like your crime fiction to be full of tension and action, then this book is for you’ Following his trail of destruction, the team must fight to save Drake not only from a list of ruthless enemies, but even more urgently, from himself. Time is running out for Ryan Drake. With his enemies moving against him and his allies no longer able to support him, his world is turned upside down by a personal tragedy that forces him to return to the UK. The thing that was most important for Cain (and I suppose, any antagonist in my books) was to give him a logical goal that the reader can identify with. Cain's not out to topple governments or kill innocent civilians for the sake of being evil - he's pursuing a bigger objective that will gradually become clear as the story unfolds. It's just his methods, and how far he's willing to go, that set him apart from the more heroic characters. My intention is to give the reader something to think about when considering if he's truly a monster.

Advance Praise

For Ryan Drake, this is just the beginning as the sniper is revealed to be Anya – the rogue former CIA agent he helped rescue from prison nearly two years earlier. Now she has allied herself with an elusive but deadly new terrorist group bent on the utter destruction of the Russian government.

Not at all my thing, although objectively speaking this book was pretty well done for the sort of book it was. Solid on all accounts with nothing egregiously stupid or gratuitously violent getting in the way of telling a story. If action is your thing (especially, high-stakes apocalyptic-flavored action), you’ll probably love this novel. It has a very cinematic sort of style to its high-octane narrative that works well and makes it a dynamic read. The sense of place, be it snowy mountains or sandy deserts is done very well too. I wante …more Great question! Yes, Cain is very much the Big Bad of this series, and there were three aspects of his character that were important to me: Will Jordan Hi Samuel. Book 6 is almost finished, and we've currently pencilled in a June 2016 launch date. We won't know for sure until the editing is done, but definitely this summer. Also I'm hoping to publish a novella shortly before this, but more details on that later. With many major publications singing Jordan’s praises, most are drawn towards his sense of suspense. That and his ability to create action set-pieces which are highly visceral and entertaining for his readers to experience, is what many readers have come to appreciate, as he gains fans both far and wide. The career of Will Jordan is growing from strength-to-strength due to this, something that doesn’t appear to stopping anytime soon. This is a solid action adventure with heroes you care about. It has a sci-fi feel to it and what I enjoy most is the author's imagination weaving the Dyatlov Pass event into the story. I hope that this is the beginning of new series!

There, he finds himself presented with an unexpected offer – travel to Libya, kidnap a high-ranking officer in Gaddafi’s much feared intelligence service, and return him to the UK. In exchange, Drake will be given everything his needs to destroy the career of the CIA’s corrupt leader, Marcus Cain. Overall, a decent, decently entertaining read. Not quite as desired or expected for this specific reader, but plenty of thrills for others, likely. Dyatlov Pass remains a mystery. Thanks Netgalley.
