You’re very active on social media to stay connected to your fans, but it almost seems like social media itself is kind of counter intuitive to the whole Eastern spiritual view, because it’s so busy and conflict-ridden. Do you have any struggles with social media as an artist?

We definitely went through that phase, like in the beginning of the 2000s. It was real tough. But it seems like we're surrounded by fans who are super excited about new music and they themselves are actually frustrated when they encounter other people who have closed minds [towards] the new stuff. With its warm textures, shifting dynamics and mistletoe references, "The Deep and Dreamless Sleep" makes for a charming ending to "SZNZ: Winter". Prog is alive and well, with Weezer releasing an EP that will go down in history as one of the most essential progressive records ever put to tape. Songs about wanting a dog and being bad at basketball may mislead feeble ears into thinking this is simply a childish throwaway record released by a band way past their prime that simply needs to finish their tetralogy, but that would be a foolish conclusion. This album contains red herrings to confuse those newer to more complex genres such a prog into thinking this isn't worth their time (thus gatekeeping it for us music professionals). In reality, as you can tell by the time signature changes in the 2nd half of Iambic Pentameter and the child's chorus singing about wanting to die during the epic guitar climax of The Deep and Dreamless Sleep, this album is actually really deep and complex and trained ears will understand that. We’ve done it from time to time; not on every record, but we go (play a show) under the name Goat Punishment. And we’ve been doing it since the late ‘90s. Most people don’t know who Goat Punishment is, but there’s some fans in town who do and they’re sure to show up and they know they’re not going to be hearing “Beverly Hills” or “Island in the Sun”; they’re going to be hearing some new stuff or some very experimental stuff that’s not going to be polished.
