About this deal

Before storing your battery, there are a few things to make sure of, like first recharging it first. If the battery level is at 60% even after you have finished using it, don’t worry, your battery should be automatically programmed to discharge down to a recommended storage level after not being used for several days. This was able to maintain a strong connection to the quadcopter over much longer distances: we tested it to several hundred feet, and Parrot claims it can manage up to about 3.5 miles (6 kilometers). If you are planning on flying at long distances (or in areas that are crowded with Wi-Fi signals), the Skycontroller would be a useful addition. Casual fliers won’t need it, though. Flying An evolution rather than a revolution, the Bebop 2 Power remains a solid choice for drone newcomers and veterans alike, just like its forerunner.

The largely plastic frame comes in two parts which is quite handy for transportation but also means that it is easy to take the drone apart should you need to make repairs at any time. The battery is also detachable and has seen a massive upgrade from the original – in fact, Parrot claim you can now enjoy a full 25 minutes of flying time with the Bebop 2 – this is pretty impressive for a drone of this size and weight. In addition to quality service, you will find a guarantee of competitive prices and absolute transparency. The battery is one of the main updates from the Bebop. While the original model had a 1200 mAh battery that provided a flight time of about 9 minutes, the Bebop 2 has a bigger 2700 mAh battery that lasts a claimed 25 minutes of flight. We found that this claim was pretty much spot-on: we were able to get about 23 minutes of flight time out of the included battery, which is a huge improvement over the 10 minutes we got from the original Bebop. This means longer shots, and more time to think about and frame the shot you want without worrying about the battery. When the voltage per cell is about 3.3 volts, you can move it to the Lithium Polymer balance charger and balance the charge at a rating of 0.5C. This will take longer to charge than charging at 1C, but it’s safer.

The Bebop 2 boasts a 14MP fisheye lens that also captures video in full 1080p high definition. Image quality is excellent and the stabilisation of the drone helps keep video smooth even at moderate speeds. Some reports that we have read have suggested that the fisheye lens is susceptible to lens flare but we didn’t notice that in any of our tests. The idea is that this approach reduces the impact of camera shake from normal movement and the wind; the results speak for themselves as both photos and video are silky-smooth and blur-free – although the shape of the lens sometimes results in odd distortion when light hits it, but this doesn't happen often. When a battery is new, it’s usually shipped at a charge of about 40%. For the first few times you use the battery, do not completely discharge it. To optimize a battery’s capacity, it’s essential to keep it at its optimum condition. One great aspect of the Bebop 2 is how easy it is to take it apart and repair if needed. The propellers all detach easily with a special tool that is supplied and the camera and battery are also very easily accessed. What else should I know?

Photos are available in a wide-angle mode and come out really nicely, but video is limited to 1080p at 30FPS and pales a bit when compared to other leading drones. With so many top-range units now offering 4K video recording, this is a little disappointing, but it has to be remembered that the Bebop 2 Power costs a lot less than other examples on the market. We liked After about two minutes of charging, your battery should recover to about 3.3 volts per cell. To confirm this, divide the total voltage of your battery by the number of cells.Do not continue using the battery if it’s visibly damaged in any way. This could include swelling or leaking. When the balance charge has finished balancing, you should have a recovered Lithium Polymer battery. This is usually an easy issue to identify. Do a bit of investigation to find out if your charger is broken. The steps in finding out if this is the problem are similar to all drone chargers. Here’s what you need to do:

Whilst you do not get 4K video the 30FPS video quality is excellent and compared to other drones in this price range the shakiness was minimal. As for the camera, it has a 14-megapixel sensor that can capture JPG or DNG RAW still images. This is alongside 30fps Full HD video. There’s only 3-axis digital stabilisation, though, rather than the preferable 2-axis stabilisation of the DJI Spark (a third is digitally stabilised). Parrot Bebop 2 Power – Performance and image quality A special nod should go to the FreeFlight Pro app, which makes piloting a breeze. It displays useful data intelligently placed around the screen, such as the altitude and distance of the drone from your position. A radar shows both the direction you’re facing and that of the drone, which helps you to keep your bearings – not so easy to do when the drone is a distance away. I can share my experience with an issue of a battery going bad. I did invest in a balance charger early on so I do have some advantages. This charger (EV-Peak DP2) can charge 3 batteries at once. One day I was getting ready for flying and I noticed one battery seemed to charge faster then the others. It was over 90% mark where the other two were still in the 60's. The last 10% charged slower so this battery was done sooner then the others but not terribly fast. I thought this was odd so I marked the battery. Continued red flashing by the battery after connecting to the charger means that the charger is not providing power to the battery.

Then connect a battery that is turned on. Before connecting to the charger, the turned on battery should be flashing red. Where this drone really comes in to its own though is with the FPV googles. You will need to use your smartphone as the display similar to other (cheap) VR headsets but the FreeFlightPro app really does work quite well with them and gives a whole new experience to flying a drone. We did notice some interference with the image from time to time but within around 100m the image quality was good.
