About this deal

If comedians were sandwich spreads (which they should be), then Harry Hill would indubitably be Marmite. To the lovers, he’s a comic genius who can have you guffawing out your Saturday teatime sausages just by turning to side camera, shrugging his shoulders and pulling a funny face. To the haters, he’s a grown man in an oversized shirt with an unhealthy badger obsession, who threw away a respected medical vocation to act like a primetime berk. I recently got into a really embarrassing fight with a stranger on facebook when I overreacted to moralizing about my refined sugar consumption and other vices; I count books like this among the things I love that are shameful and likely giving me cancer. Recently I've stalled out on books with any nutritional value or moral virtue, and The Shark Infested Custard was the perfect antidote to that, basically a KFC Double Down topped with whipped cream and washed down with scotch. If you've recently quit smoking, drinking, sex, pills, or pretty much anything else fun, this might be a good read because a) it feels deliciously bad for you and b) it makes all those things I just listed seem totally gross. In a very similar setup to his Channel 4 breakthrough series Harry Hill (1997), the show included various sketches, recurring jokes, musical numbers, a segment entitled Meet The Johnsons, in which Harry would invite any family with the surname Johnson onto the show, and a Multi-Coloured Swap Shop style game entitled Help The Aged.

On 17 July 2014, Hill was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Arts by the University of Kent, in recognition of his contribution to television and the arts. While the show featured a game show element, Help the Aged, it was very similar in structure to Harry Hill. In the show, Hill wore a pale yellow, custard coloured shirt, with a giant collar, instead of his usual white collar. Hill's third book, The Further Adventures of the Queen Mum, was published in October 2007, and was a comic take on the life and times of the Queen Mother. His fourth novel, Tim the Tiny Horse at Large, which is a sequel to Tim the Tiny Horse, was published in October 2009. The show was deemed new territory for Harry Hill at the time, as prior to its broadcast he had never produced any television show intended for children. However, for many years Hill, whose comedy has always generally been free of smut and harsh language, had appealed to a large audience of all ages. Two books – Harry Hill's Whopping Great Joke Book and Harry Hill's Bumper Book of Bloopers were released in 2006 to tie in with the series. [4] [5] Cancellation [ edit ]

The show was piloted in December 2001, before running for fifteen full series between 2002 and 2012, before being cancelled to allow Hill to work on other projects. Hill would occasionally say his catchphrase "Chippy chips!" and the show became known for another catchphrase "You get the idea with that." and Hill's actual sideways look at a topic, the show developed a cult following and was popular with the entire family. It is an industry rumour still that in the last few years of the show that some of the programs Hill would focus on – especially the soaps – would deliberately try to get featured on the show by giving prominence to bald members of teams (or experts) in all kinds of shows or obviously pushing for rhyming dialogue so as to get it in Poetry Corner. The show won a number of BAFTA awards, and spawned five Best of TV Burp DVD compilations, and a book based on the series, which was released for Christmas 2009. Charles Willeford wrote “The Shark-Infested Custard” in 1975 but couldn’t get it published because it was considered too depressing; in fact, it’s pretty close to perfect. Each year they would make the journey to their family nest, where they grew up, to celebrate their mother’s birthday. In its prime, TV Burp was a masterclass in scriptwriting, clip-editing, delivery, physical comedy, celebrity-booking, prop-buying, set-building, costume-making, jingle-writing, stuntwork, puppetry and (ahem) sexual innuendo. The workload on Harry and his “programme associates” was intense, requiring them to watch hours of soaps, reality shows, quizshows, dramas and documentaries to extract a single joke. Harry was also narrating You’ve Been Framed!, shown on ITV immediately before, which he did so brilliantly effortlessly that it sounded as if he made it all up in real time on the way to the TV Burp studio. It was no surprise that TV Burp could only run between six and 12 episodes before everyone needed an intense lie down and an eight-month holiday. A teacher asks the class to name six fish that you might find in the sea. One of the pupils replies, “five sharks and a herring”. The series also featured classic characters from Harry Hill, such as Stouffer the Cat and Harry’s son from his first marriage – ventriloquist doll Garry Hill. Several new characters were also introduced: Burly Caroline, Harry Hill Snr., Speed Camera Boy, a giant, and a musical genius called Evelynne Hussey. The self aware formulaic style continued with each show ending on a song as per Harry Hill. In 2008, he won two BAFTAs, and another in 2009 for Best Entertainment Performance. In 2009, he won two British Comedy Awards, making it his sixth award. He also won again in 2011, but was unable to be there and sent Wagbo to collect it on his behalf. He was also nominated for 3 other awards, including the People's Choice Award, which was won by Miranda Hart. A man says “I keep finding custard in one ear, and jelly in the other”. The doctor says “I’m afraid you are a trifle deaf”.

At the end of each episode, an event called "The Badger Parade" was supposed to take place. The parade featured a number of puppet badgers that included " Gareth Southgate badger" and " Tasmin Archer badger", among others – however, every week, there would be some kind of problem, resulting in the badgers being unable to perform. In place of the badger parade, Hill would usually sing a song, with a guest that he had invited onto the show. A tie-in book relating to the series was released in October 1998, entitled Harry Hill's Fun Book.

Here are some great yellow joke one liners that you can quip whenever someone is talking about yellow.
