About this deal

We found the Super AMOLED display to be bright and pixel-dense at its 3200 x 1440 QHD resolution, yet also look perfectly fine at the default Full HD+ resolution. The lower resolution saves battery life and – spoiler – it’s the only resolution at which you can experience the 120Hz screen refresh rate; that’s not QuadHD-compatible yet.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra review: Samsung’s best phone yet

Samsung's 'single-take mode' helps you answer an everyday question: should I take photos or a video? Customisability is key here; whether it’s changing how the phone performs while you’re gaming to how fast or high-res the screen is, Samsung lets you tweak lots of things to work how you want them too. However, the the extra-large pictures do offer the ability to crop in without as much quality loss. It makes sense for the same reason recording 8K video is often a good idea even if you don’t own anything more than a 4K TV: you can crop and edit without sacrificing detail. It gives you creative latitude, even if you ultimately output to a 12MP photo and 1080p video. Battery Capacity (Typical) : Typical value tested under third-party laboratory condition. Typical value is the estimated average value considering the deviation in battery capacity among the battery samples tested under IEC 61960 standard. Rated (minimum) capacity is 3880mAh for Galaxy S20, 4370mAh for Galaxy S20+, and 4855mAh for Galaxy S20 Ultra. Actual battery life may vary depending on network environment, usage patterns and other factors. We appreciate that Samsung found a way to make a smaller punch-hole for its front-facing camera in the top-center of the screen, and selfies actually look better than before – and say goodbye to that wide dual-lens selfie camera from the S10 Plus, as there’s only one camera embedded in this display.Face Detection, Smile Detection, Panorama, HDR, Night Mode, Exposure Control, Bokeh Mode, AI Features, Scene Detection, Time-of-Flight Camera The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has the best display on any smartphone – that’s usually the case for new Samsung phones for about six months, until the company unseats itself with newer display tech. Cue the Galaxy S30.

The Ultra features a 40 MP front camera rather than the 10 MP on the other S20s. In addition to auto-HDR for high-contrast images, the camera captures 4K video at up to 60 fps. 108 MP Rear Camera Using 5G hogs battery life, and in part to counter this the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery capacity, while the S20 Plus has a 4,500mAh battery. We found that the Ultra lasted longer than 24 hours on days we weren't testing 5G speeds non-stop.The sensor in the Xiaomi uses pixel binning to combine four pixels. This means that you capture 27MP images from the 108MP sensor, but when the pixels are combined you’re effectively getting four times the light-gathering per pixel. The Samsung version, on the other hand, combines nine pixels via a ‘nonabinning’ method. Combining these nine pixels gives you 12MP images from the 108MP sensor, but should result in 9x the light gathering. The camera is supremely capable. Samsung’s post-processing remains behind the likes of Google and Apple, and that’s why we’ve got all these megapixels at play. You might be disappointed if you felt the high megapixel count was going to take mobile photography to the next level – these shots still look like they’ve come from a phone, but the results are still great. If you’re a fan of pictures from previous Samsung phones then these are the very best versions of those Samsung photos. Samsung has already wowed us with a 6.9-inch 120Hz display on the S20 Ultra, but the compromise here is the same as with that phone: you have to choose between 120Hz in 1080p, or dropping to 60Hz to enjoy the QuadHD resolution.

Distance. It used to be a problem for smartphone cameras, which were incapable of making distant subjects look anything other than, well, distant. The Dynamic AMOLED display on Galaxy S20 Ultra received a certification from VDE Germany for 100 percent Mobile Color Volume in the DCI-P3 color range, which means your images aren’t washed out and you’ll get unbelievably vivid colors regardless of differing levels of brightness. The display can achieve peak brightness of up to 1200 nits, improving the contrast between dark and light aspects of digital content for a more brilliant picture quality, with a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio to make your mobile experience more immersive. Samsung’s 6.9-inch display will push the boundaries of your fingers’ reach and your thumb’s dexterity, yet it won’t feel much bigger than the S10 Plus – its width is actually a tad smaller than the 6.8-inch Note 10 Plus and 6.7-inch Galaxy S10 5G. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra release date was March 6, 2020 in the US and Australia, and March 13 in the UK, alongside the S20 and S20 Plus.Plus, all models of the S20 have a microSD slot for expanding the storage by up to 1TB in case you do hit the built-in capacity. The S20 Ultra takes excellent photos with lots of detail and a colour palette that’s a bit more restrained when compared to older S-series phones. You’ll still see slightly more saturation and pop to reds and greens than an iPhone 11, but nowhere near as much as before. Apple has now released its latest range of devices and that means a new competitor to the S20 Ultra. However, the big issue here is that due to the long difference in time between the two launches, Apple's latest is not going to come cheap. That mirrors what we saw on the Galaxy Note 10 Plus, as does the Ultra’s fast wireless charging prowess of up to 15W.

The 48 MP telephoto lens delivers 10x hybrid optical zoom and 100x digital zoom supported by optical image stabilisation. Thanks to the high sensor resolution and folded-lens technology, the optical hybrid zoom is lossless. In video mode, the main lens captures 8K footage at up to 30 fps, supported by action-cam image stabilisation. A few companies are even toying with 100W charging, but Samsung seems to be taking its time in rolling out truly fast charging.
