Everything from there on is a very difficult, emotional read and details are not spared. I was particularly emotional when reading about how relieved James' parents were when they saw the now infamous CCTV footage of him being lead away by 2 10 year old boys. That footage gave them hope and a sense of relief because he was with other children they couldn't imagine children harming their little boy. Nobody could. Of course that hope was soon to be shattered.

What an amazing, strong, wonderful woman Denise is. The fact she managed to keep going and always strive to fight for her son is inspiring. Especially as she has faced no end of obstacles.

The Investigation

Johnston, Philip (3 March 2010). "Bulger killers: identifying them was a mistake". Daily Telegraph. London, UK. Archived from the original on 8 November 2014 . Retrieved 8 November 2014. In November 2011, it was reported that officials had decided that Venables would stay in prison for the foreseeable future, as he would be likely to reveal his true identity if released. A Ministry of Justice spokesman declined to comment on the reports. [123] On 4 July 2013, it was reported that the Parole Board for England and Wales had approved the release of Venables. [124] [125] On 3 September 2013, it was reported that Venables had been released from prison. [126] 2017 imprisonment [ edit ] A month after James’ killers were found guilty, Denise gives birth to a baby boy called Michael James Bulger. Ralph and Denise finally have a reason to continue living. But their whole world has been turned upside down and sadly their marriage falls apart.

Don't bother applying' – PM's message to Jon Venables, killer of two-year-old James Bulger". 1 News. 24 June 2019. Archived from the original on 24 June 2019 . Retrieved 24 June 2019. We have seen from the studies of the perpetrators of the Holocaust, for example in Christopher Browning’s brilliant Ordinary Men, how murder can be normalised, so guys can think that shooting a village full of men, women and children is an unpleasant but reasonable thing to do, given the circumstances. You know, a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it. That was the pathology of a lot of German murderers during the Third Reich. It was group think. It was people abdicating responsibility upwards. Hitler, he knows what he’s doing. Everything is happening just like he said it would. We’re not psychopaths, we’re doing good work here, building a great future for our children. This book is an emotional roller coaster. I cried like ten times, even when it wasn't meant to be sad, when things caught up in my subconscious. The writing, choppy in places, was exactly the sort to fully convey the horror experienced by James' father after that day. He was so young himself, and had already lost a daughter, and this is the event that has determined his entire life. Then you have words from his brother, who identified James' body, and the trauma he has never recovered from. Having watched documentaries about this case, it was an entirely different scenario hearing from Denise Fergus herself and how she has fought for justice for her son since his death. Denise is a truly remarkable woman, and her strength for her family is admirable. So much has been written about her family over the years and she has not always been treated with the respect both her and James deserve by the media and social media trolls.Coslett, Paul (4 December 2006). The Arrest

People think I set up a place for James, but it’s not like that,” Fergus told the Observer. “We have a table for six, and there’s five of us. I’ve always said that the empty chair is where James should be sitting. I try to be positive when I talk about him. I don’t want James’s memory to be lost.” a b "New sentencing rules: Key cases".
