Gavin Mortimer wrote that the "main problem with Rogue Heroes is that it is true to David Stirling's version of how the SAS was born. The BBC show was widely praised, taking the adrenaline-fuelled exploits detailed in the book and serving up with a twist, thanks to Steven Knight's adaptation.

The series will be executive produced by Karen Wilson, Emma Kingsman-Lloyd and Martin Haines for Kudos, and Nick Lambon for the BBC. Wrangel Clarke was a real-life officer in the SAS and is considered a pioneer in military deception.
