About this deal

What a special legacy. Grandma's gardens is a delightful story about family, gardening, and traditions. Such a sweet book - while not a how-to book about gardening, it is certainly a how-to book about teaching your children to respect nature and showing appreciation for the things your mother has taught. I liked the different voices - sometimes Hillary was narrating, sometimes it was Chelsea. I liked that Chelsea grew up over the course of the book - from a toddler to a mother with children of her own. This would make a nice mother's day gift. Grandma's Garden was developed by an Educational Psychologist and parents of preschoolers for children ages 5 and under. Vocabulary: lettuce, cucumber, broccoli, tomato, potato, corn, eggplant, chili pepper, onion, red pepper, green pepper, yellow pepper, mushroom, carrot, artichoke, pumpkin, pea, radish

My first place I lived on my own was renting a room in a house in Ann Arbor. We had a small side yard with sun and we turned that space into a garden. I got to plan it out. People could not believe how healthy and vibrant that little piece of land was. I mean we got so much stuff from it. I loved being part of that garden and I felt much the way about the plants that this book does. It was wonderful. I would go outside to sit in the garden and zen out. It felt wonderful. Our house was in the middle of town and people would walk by and talk about all the plants. We had veggies and flowers all over the place. We would can about 40 - 50 quarts of tomatoes from that little spot of land. I would find a new plant and decide to plant it and watch it grow. I grew everything just about. I never got the asparagus to head up enough to eat, but just about everything else did well. I even had a horseradish plant as the center piece and we dug up part of it each year and ground it into fresh horseradish each year. OH, I loved that day and the smell in the house. It was awesome. The text sounds more like something from NPR's This American Life than from a children's picture book.

Color the Vegetable. Oh no! Grandma's vegetable is the wrong color! Color it to reveal a silly-faced veggie grinning at you! A positive and welcoming environment for young children to learn numbers, letters and colors." - bestappsforkids In 1994 as First Lady of the United States, her major initiative, the Clinton health care plan, failed to gain approval from the U.S. Congress. However, in 1997 and 1999, Clinton played a role in advocating for the establishment of the State Children's Health Insurance Program, the Adoption and Safe Families Act, and the Foster Care Independence Act. Her time as First Lady drew a polarized response from the American public. She is the only First Lady to have been subpoenaed, testifying before a federal grand jury in 1996 due to the Whitewater controversy, but was never charged with any wrongdoing in this or any of the other investigations during her husband's administration. The state of her marriage was the subject of considerable speculation following the Lewinsky scandal in 1998 that spurred Articles of Impeachment to be issued against her husband, Bill Clinton. Wow! I loved this story and not because I am a fan of the Clinton's. This is a lovely ode to gardening. This is about gardening being generational and something you can do and pass down to your children and grandchildren. It's beautiful, its family, its food and it brings people together. They even vacation and go see gardens together. You will feel good about giving your kids Grandma's Garden because it teaches basic skills and life skills (gardening) in a fun and engaging way. It is loaded with fun activities, positive messages, and enriching content for kids.

Grandmas Gardens is our latest social enterprise project all about supporting communities to farm their own marketable produce to bring in an income. Grandma’s Gardens” is a lovely book, a wonderful addition to any library. It is about family – grandmothers, mothers, and daughters. It is about gardens, flowers, love, and connection. The writing is very nicely done, the illustrations outstanding. We follow Grandma Dorothy as she shares her love of gardens with her daughter Hillary, and her granddaughter Chelsea. The warmth of this story immediately comes through, reminding me of my childhood, and my mother and grandmother’s love of flowers and gardening. It is written at a level that children will understand, but also written in a manner in which it can be shared by an adult reading to a child. Grandma Dorothy loved gardens, and she instilled that love in her daughter Hillary and her granddaughter Chelsea. Gardens are places to celebrate, to teach, to discover, and to learn. Gardens are the homes for many animals, they give us food, they allow us to create beauty. Now there is another generation and Chelsea's children learn the same lessons their mother and grandmother learned. I think if I had a garden during this Covid time, it would help me out so much better. A garden space has so much life. My life goal is to have a place again that I can have a garden of my own.
