On that subject, the engineers over at Pi HQ may actually have been low-balling it when it comes to the performance gains for the latest model. Even when tested with an external cooling fan and firmware updates to reduce throttling, the Pi 4 only managed an overall score of 13.9 in our benchmark tests. The Pi 400, meanwhile, scored a rather staggering 27 points – amazingly, that’s actually two points higher than Microsoft’s Surface Go 2. The Raspberry Pi 400 kit is a complete personal computer built into a compact keyboard, with everything you need in the box (minus a monitor or TV)! You get Gigabit Ethernet, USB and two USB3 ports, two mini HDMI outputs and a microSD card slot. There’s USB-C for delivering power, too. Both HDMI ports support 4K displays, although you can only run a single display at 60Hz; if you connect two displays, they both run at 30Hz.You do miss out on a few things, including the camera and display connectors. It’s a slight shame, as it means you can’t use the 400 for developing projects that use either accessory, moving them to a regular Pi when you’re done. The bigger loss is that there’s no 3.5mm audio output for hooking up external speakers or a pair of headphones. You can switch video drivers to get the most out of the VideoCore VI GPU. Enabling the GL (Fake KMS) desktop driver using the raspi-config tool in Raspberry Pi OS improved performance in the HardInfo GPU Drawing benchmark improved from 1523 to 1602. Raspberry Pi OS I'm still compiling some other thoughts about the Pi 400, as I have only just gotten it a week or so ago. I'll update this post over time with any new information.

The Raspberry Pi 400 is a convenient all-in-one computer that’s super easy to set up, and feels that bit more robust and easy to use than its predecessors. We keep saying it… because it’s amazing. Raspberry Pi 400 is a fully integrated personal computer inside a keyboard – just plug in and play! It also means you don’t have to waste any space with a clunky desktop PC. Get Going Straight Out the Box The Raspberry Pi 400 kit is an incredible option for value for money. You get the Pi 400 computer as well as all the items you need to get started straight out of the box, you only need a monitor. So you don’t have to search to find everything individually. Zero Hassle. Revolutionary Raspberry PiThe Raspberry Pi has always been more of a fun curiosity than a serious piece of business equipment. While it’s always had its niche uses in a business environment, such as powering digital signage or handling small-scale network management tasks, there were always barriers to its usefulness as a general-purpose end-user computing device for enterprise workers. Digging into the benchmark results a little further tells us a bit more about this Pi’s capabilities. For the image editing tests, which are designed to measure a device’s ability to handle multiple sequential workloads on a single core, it scored just two points – that’s compared to a score of five for the Pi 4. The video editing test was the most successful, with a score of 42, while a result of 26 for the multitasking test is creditable. To get it open, I used a plexiglass cutter, which is the only tool I have that's thin enough to get into the side clips that hold the white keyboard top to the red plastic shell underneath, but also rigid enough to un-pop the snaps. After working my way around the board, I could separate the keyboard top from the bottom half: Internally, the Pi 400 is basically an upgraded Raspberry Pi Model 4 computer. Rather than squeezing that board into a keyboard case, this computer has been built from scratch to be an all-in-one. For starters, that means that all of the ports are lined up at the rear of the computer, rather than being spread around the side. Don’t be deceived by the size of Raspberry Pi 400, this computer delivers outstanding development tools and performance, the world of programming has never been so easy-to-use! With only one key component in the board itself, all you have to do is plug and play any peripherals you desire.

The Raspberry Pi 400 kit is available in a number of different regional variants (select above). You can also buy the standalone unit on its own without the accessories. Looking at the bottom, there aren't any screws or other fasteners, and the only difference from the regular keyboard is the inclusion of some vents and larger rubber feet. For my own needs, I often like to mount my Pi computers in custom cases or in places where I operate them headless. So I wouldn't necessarily buy a Pi 400 for that. But I do like it enough to stash it in my 'go' bag for networking tasks, and to have a computer at the ready anywhere I go. All I need is power, a TV, and a mouse—and technically I could skip that last bit! While you may find workarounds to get your preferred software or peripherals to function, the annoying fact is that it’s nowhere near the plug-and-play experience offered by Windows or macOS – if you’re planning to use this as an everyday machine, be prepared to get real familiar with the Linux terminal. Of course, this isn’t a problem with the Pi, per se, and it’s unfair to lay blame at its feet, but it’s worth bearing in mind nonetheless.

As mentioned before, this product comes equipped with a Raspberry Pi development board already integrated within, so you know you’re getting the best. Over 14 million Raspberry Pi computers have been sold worldwide that have transformed the single-board computing world. Helping people of all ages and knowledge levels explore the world of programming and computing. Go Wireless The familiar 40-pin GPIO pins are located at the rear of the keyboard for wiring up electronics projects, alongside two USB 3.0 ports and a USB 2.0 port. There's even an on/off power option via the F10 key (for full power disconnection, grab a USB-C on/off switch cable). One issue that I had with the Pi 4 was that the processor would get quite warm when pushed, throttling itself slightly. Raspberry Pi has clearly worked on heat dissipation for the 400 as I never got the warning thermometer icon telling me that the computer was running too hot.

The Pi 400 is also available as a kit that comes with all of the peripherals needed, just add a HDMI monitor and you are good to go! Get the Raspberry Pi 400 personal computer kit here. Features: Today Raspberry Pi Trading announced the Raspberry Pi 400, the latest in the series of small education-focused computers that started with the original Raspberry Pi in 2012. As with all things Raspberry Pi, you're not going to get Apple-level hardware (no chamfered aluminium edges, diamond-blasted surfaces, stainless steel bands, etc.), but at least for the model I received, the plastic molds seemed to produce high-quality parts, and everything fit together (and survived four separate complete teardown-rebuild cycles!) very well.

Finally - a business-ready Raspberry Pi

It's not a substitute for something like a modern laptop or desktop if you need the horsepower and certain apps, but it offers a ton, and the software for the Pi is getting better every day, as more of the computing world increases Linux and ARM compatibility. The Raspberry Pi 400 offers a range of different ports that will cater to your needs. From LAN to USB 3.0, 40 pin GPIO to MicroHDMI, whatever you need to plug in, the Pi 400 has it!
