Personally I prefer The Secret Footballers collection but Crouch being able to put names to stories and his own laidback style is a great touch. This was a decent book and certainly there were some touching moments as well as laugh out loud moments. Is this a difficult third book where the best idea comes in the epilogue: think of a retired footballer and make it their day. Otherwise, it’s a really interesting look into a number of other peoples post-football careers and pretty touching at times too. Do you feel weighed down by stress and pressure, held back by judgement and lack of opportunity, and critcised by everyone – including yourself? I would recommend all young and upcoming football professionals read the last poignant chapter of this book at least.I talks about the struggles and demons facing footballers once they are too old to play professionally. The audiobook reflects Rhonda’s own journey and shares the most direct way out for those experiencing hardship and the path to end pain and suffering endured by so many, and it shines a light on a future without anxiety or fear.
