Those who suffer with mouth ulcers know only too well how uncomfortable and painful these little sores can be. Usually occurring as a result of damage to the lining of the mouth, these round or oval-shaped sores can be found anywhere on the inside of your mouth or on the tongue. Thankfully, you don’t have to suffer for long; there are multiple products available on the market that offer to treat mouth ulcers, and below you’ll discover the products we recommend (and since one of our testers has suffered with mouth ulcers their entire life, we know what works!). Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic and disinfectant. It helps reduce the number of germs (bacteria) in your mouth or on your skin. A patient can only get cold sores if they already have the herpes simplex virus. Cold sores can happen when a patient is feeling run-down or has another infection. A GP or dentist may prescribe stronger medicine to treat severe, persistent or infected mouth ulcers.If you have a dry mouth, ask a pharmacist about treatments you can buy to help keep your mouth moist.

Although, if chlorhexidine is being used on the skin, make sure the treatment has been washed off from the nipple and breast before feeding. 9. Common questions about chlorhexidine

Toothpaste – Make sure you use a toothpaste that doesn’t contain sodium lauryl sulphate, since this can be irritating and exacerbate mouth ulcers. There are plenty on the market; we’re big fans of the Sensodyne Pronamel toothpastes. Chlorhexidine dental, sore throat and skin treatments are not known to cause problems if you take them at the same time as other medicines. You are taking antibiotics called sulphonamides, for example co-trimoxazole, as benzocaine may prevent them from working well.
