Santa’s appearance is prominent throughout Christmas time, but do we truly know where he came from? What should we tell our children when they question, “Who’s Santa?” What does Santa Clause have to do with Christianity? First up, there is more reliable documentation that Santa Clause (St. Nicholas) was a real flesh & blood person than there is that Jesus existed at all. Not a character driven story, but story driven characters -->> One of the unique episodes that doesn't follow what Stan does, it follows instead what Jesus does Thinking through and questioning things is an important part of development. Don’t fight the truth. Leaning into the Christmas season can provide us with many opportunities to share Jesus with our friends and community.
So, boys and girls, Mesdames et Monsieurs, Ladies and Gentlemen, the real Grinch of Christmastide are christians, the very people who shovel their dung-filled lies about the holiday. We are completely free to choose whether to include Santa in our Christmas traditions, but our main priority should not be prancing around declaring our freedom nor judging those who think differently from us. Our main goal should be to love others; to consider their good and think about how to help them make their own godly and upright choices. We are free to choose, but is our choice going to cause friction and grief or love and unity? Young children believe both statements are true. But, when the time comes in their lives when they are old enough to realize that Santa is NOT real, they feel betrayed by their parents and a very powerful doubt seeps into their soul, wondering if they can continue to believe in Jesus, even though you cannot see Him. The "santa" in Santa claus is a title for "saint". Similar to how the "Christ" in Jesus Christ is also a title. Sooooo...remove the titles, combine what's left and we could have a "Jesus Claus". Yep, Santa could be Jesus in disguise (dressed up like his dad maybe?) Who does the Santa gig to get away from all the sanctimonious and serious "Christians" and have some fun. Oh - and the elves could really be leprechauns working part time. Our intent when it comes to Santa is extremely important when determining whether Santa is a lie or a game. Is our intent to hoodwink and wilfully deceive our children into a serious, lifelong delusion about the existence of Santa? Or is our intent to play a fun game for a limited period of time? Some parents feel deeply uncomfortable with the concept that Santa is a game—they feel that it is lying, plain and simple. They may fear that their children will feel betrayed when they discover the truth. Others might conclude that it is a matter of how Santa is handled.
