About this deal

With all this in mind, I wanted to love Killing Jericho, but ultimately I found the overwritten prose and far-fetched ending really detracted from a novel which had the potential to be really enjoyable. Dark, exciting, furiously-paced and full of twists, KILLING JERICHO sets the stage for a unique detective - ALEX SMITH, author of the bestselling DCI Kett thrillers William Hussey is in top form in his latest novel Killing Jericho. Scott Jericho lives on the periphery of society in a community of traveling circus folk. After serving time in prison Scott is trying to leave the past behind him, but a professor reaches out to him to find out who has committed a number of recent murders. Scott is intrigued and begins to investigate. If you thought Benoit Blanc was your favourite queer detective then you’re absolutely wrong, it is very much Scott Jericho. So do yourself a favour and read this before I have to start gently tapping people round the head with it.. did I say please? No? Okay please read this, thank you very much. You best believe I’ve found myself a new instant buy author! Note that even the animals had become defiled by such depravity; this is why they too had to be destroyed. We further read:

Scott Jericho thought he’d worked his last case. Fresh out of jail, the disgraced former detective is forced to seek refuge with the fairground family he once rejected. Then a series of bizarre murders comes to light – deaths that echo a century-old fairground legend. The police can’t connect the victims. But Jericho knows how the legend goes; that more murders are certain to follow.

There is a dark and gruesome murder at a fairground in this unique crime thriller. This enthralling story follows Scott Jericho, a former detective from the travelling community, on a roller coaster of curiosities. The Israelites’ circling of the city seven nights in a row and their parading of the sacred Ark of the Covenant may have had the effect of ‘spinning a supernatural net about the city’, undermining the inhabitants’ confidence that they could withstand a divinely powerful army. The only connection appears to be a tragedy that happened to a group of 5 travellers who were killed in a bridge collapse 150 years before. Nevertheless, as Isaac Asimov points out in Asimov’s Guide to the Bible: The Old Testament by Isaac Asimov, there may be something to the psychological warfare the Israelites waged on their opponents.

Killing Jericho (Killing Jericho, book 1) by William Hussey

Zaffre, the commercial fiction imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired Killing Jericho, the debut adult thriller from William Hussey. Publishing Director Ben Willis acquired world all language rights in a three-book deal from Veronique Baxter at David Higham Associates. I really want to read more long-running series this year. I have been meaning to read more Discrworld books and this year I am aiming to get as many as I can in! I have some series that I have started but haven't finished. I have some books that I have owned for YEARS and justhaven'tgotten around to so I want to try and cut some of them down thisyear. I'd also like to sort out my Netgalley percentage which... LETS NOT GO THERE! I did do a month last year where I only read Netgalley proofs and managed to get my percentage up a whopping 3% (lol) so maybe I'll manage to sort some of those out thisyear too! Following God's law, the Israelites killed every man and woman of every age, as well as the oxen, sheep, and donkeys. Only Rahab, her parents, brothers and all "those who belonged to her" were spared. They were incorporated into Israel. Joshua then cursed anybody who rebuilt the foundations and gates, with the deaths of their firstborn and youngest child respectively. This was eventually fulfilled by Hiel the Bethelite under King Ahab's reign. Ben Willis, publishing director, said: “At Zaffre, we are always on the hunt for British crime fiction that pushes the boundaries of the genre, and William absolutely does this in Killing Jericho. It is brilliantly fresh, beautifully dark and utterly unique: a helter-skelter ride through the eyes of a detective protagonist like no other. I can’t wait to share William’s excellent crime novel – and Scott Jericho – with the world.”Linsey Miller; Rosiee Thor; Moniza Hossain; Akemi Dawn Bowman; Emily Victoria; S.J. Darkly original, suspenseful, and haunting. From the gothic undertones to the fresh protagonist and ratcheting tension, Killing Jericho is a first-class thriller’ – Chris Whitaker
