About this deal

Automated Humidity Detection: A smart humidity sensor, featuring LED indicators, constantly observes the moisture levels within a room and automatically powers down the dehumidifier once the desired humidity level is achieved. Running costs vary depending on the size, make and model of dehumidifier you opt for. However, despite Pro Breeze making efforts to lower the running costs of the Pro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Special Laundry Mode when compared to its predecessor, the Pro Breeze 20L Dehumidifier with Laundry Mode, the latest model still uses a fairly hefty 440W to operate. It blows out warm air, and if we shut the door where the washing is, it gets quite toasty. It turns itself off if the water container gets full. We don't have huge damp problems – it's an older property though so it’s a little damp, but feels better since we started using the EcoAir.” (Vetted by Mumsnet user Fourmagpies) Fan speeds: Some dehumidifiers have just one speed for continuous drying, limiting your control. Whilst others have up to three, which is advantageous if you want to adjust it for faster drying or put it on a lower (and possibly quieter) setting. There’s also the endless debate between desiccant and refrigerant (compressor) dehumidifiers. We talk more about the general differences here, but a refrigerant dehumidifier works best in warmer temperatures, while a desiccant is the better option for low temperature applications.

If your home is filled with moisture, condensation or even mould, a dehumidifier provides a range of benefits. These include: Unlike a compressor dehumidifier that passes air over a cold coil to condense the water from it, a desiccant dehumidifier uses a 'desiccant chemical' to absorb the moisture from the air. As a result, desiccant dehumidifiers are the best option for rooms that are likely to fall below 15°c, as at lower temperatures compressor and Peltier models can struggle to work efficiently. For comparison, at current energy costs, the MeacoDry Arete One Dehumidifier uses around 6p of electricity per hour, and the Pro Breeze 20L Premium uses nearly twice that at roughly 12p per hour. That depends on your humidity levels and what you’re trying to achieve. You don’t always have to leave your dehumidifier on, but you may want to if your damp problem is severe. Also, it can be cheaper to run them at night.

How we chose our recommendations

The De'Longhi Tascuigo AriaDry DEX216F is the largest model in the range and able to extract 16L of water from the air per day, and although the tank capacity isn't the largest, at 2.1L it still offers adequate capacity. This multi-purpose appliance also has an air purifier function with a double filtration system that can remove dust and other allergens from the air, plus a dedicated Laundry Drying function. Things are a bit more complicated than this though. While a dehumidifier is sold with a power rating, that doesn’t mean it uses this power all the time. The Pro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier doesn’t have an air purifier function like the MeacoDry Arete One it does, but it does have an active carbon filter which is designed to trap dust and other airborne pollutants. However, to help give an overview, here are some key facts it's useful to know before searching for the best dehumidifier for the task in hand.

5 Best Dehumidifiers Reviews of 2023 in the UK - BestAdvisers

We often get asked how much it costs to run a dehumidifier. It’s an important topic, as rising energy bills have forced everyone in the UK to be more aware of how much their appliances cost to run. There are a couple of complaints, similar to mine, regarding its noise levels, stating that it’s not quiet even when on its lowest fan setting, and certainly not in night mode, or on a high fan speed setting. If you don’t want to think too hard about your usage, a device with an auto setting will be more efficient as it will only come on when the humidity levels go above your RH setting, saving you from wasting energy. How much does a dehumidifier cost to run? Strong dehumidifying mode will set the target humidity at a very low 30%. (Usually between 40-60% humidity is recommended). Although a word of warning; in this mode the fans run at high speed and cannot be adjusted, so this is an extremely noisy setting. However, I don't think you'd really need to operate it in Strong mode in normal circurmstances within the home.

We’ve got a Meaco Arête One dehumidifier. It’s quiet enough to run overnight in the bedroom." (Tried and tested by Mumsnet user Catmummyof2 ) Our verdict
