About this deal

Unenthusiastic Nicks gives a fashion show at SPAC August 13, 1986 - Songbird Stevie Nicks focuses on costume changes at dull Saratoga concert. I Can't Wait" was released as a 12-inch single in an extended 6:00 rock version in many territories, but the UK release exclusively included a longer and different version of the album track "Rock a Little (Go Ahead Lily)" running at 5:12, currently unavailable on any other release. Although some are saved by beautiful lyrics or amazing vocals, some songs fall through the cracks and into the '80s mainstream oblivion. Originally released on VHS and Laserdisc in 1987, it was also issued on the VCD format, and later reissued on DVD in 2007. With an emphasis on synthesizers and programmed drums, Rock a Little followed some of the music trends of the time.

If you haven't checked out this album, I strongly suggest doing so, it's one of the more underrated albums of all time due to it coming out during a time where poptimism wasn't a thing. Bigger action sequences, better special effects (Robert Patrick’s liquifying T-1000 was a gamechanger) and a relatable mother-child setup, plus Arnold Schwarzenegger flipping to the good side, make his 1991 sequel a fantastic watch to this day. To his credit, Howard tells the tale with a minimum of fuss; the uptick in tension as the days pass and the extreme claustrophobia of the underwater scenes are enough to make it gripping. As the monsoon threatened, an international operation – including Thai Navy Seals and two UK cave rescuers – struggled to save them. The big hit from this set is 'Talk To Me', contributed by Chas Sandford (who co-wrote John Waite's 'Missing You'), a catchy, sax-driven pop rock number with a fat back beat. However, Nicks scrapped these recordings and parted ways with long-time producer and romantic interest Jimmy Iovine, and in late 1984 began work on what is now recognized as the Rock a Little project. The eighties come hard and fast and cloaks this album and Stevie with it and although eighties is not a bad word in my book, this isn't the sound of the eighties that I like. Nicks' subsequent relationship with Eagles member Joe Walsh produced the ballad "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You".

Stevie dedicated Rock a Little to three groups of people: Her colleagues (the great singers and players), veterans of the Vietnam War, and Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh. This is one of my favourite albums of all time, mainly because whenever I listen to it, I immediately sympathise with her pain as she clearly wants to move on from the person that had hurt her (Lindsey Buckingham) but is held back from the memories she had with them.

SONG: Stevie Nicks – Rock a Little January 13, 1986 - Unlike her former running mate Lindsey Buckingham, Nicks has played it pretty safe in her records apart from Fleetwood Mac.

So successful has this Countdown spin-off been that Jimmy Carr has sat underneath that giant clock for longer than any actual host of the show proper, bar Richard Whiteley. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. Lyrics are often too elliptical and mysterious to be easily understood, except by the converts, but as Christine McVie once said, why worry about understanding them when the words sound so great strung together. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. The one song with the lasting legacy is the piano ballad 'Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You' which always pops up in concert encores, and is a tender closer to the record. I know the music around it is quite nice, as her songwriting skills are still there, but the vocals just ruin it and don't let me enjoy it, especially since Nicks' special voice is one of her main trademarks.

Recording for her follow-up project to 1983's multi-platinum album The Wild Heart originally began in 1984. The US leg of the Rock a Little Tour kicked off in 1986 and concluded with a show at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, which was captured and released on video (and later on DVD) usually entitled Live at Red Rocks.

Singing] Rock a little/ Even when it's calm the house still shook a little/ Just like the sea I rock a little/ Some say it was just like me ~ Rock a little. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. This release is notable for including a live solo performance of "Leather and Lace" from the last night of Nicks' 1981 Bella Donna Tour, which was cut from the VHS release of White Wing Dove: Stevie Nicks Live, a 9-track edit of the same concert.
