The Shadowers’ Choice for the Kate Greenaway Medal is Starbird, illustrated and written by Sharon King-Chai, a mythical tale of a singing Starbird caged by a Moon King. A young girl journeys through a vast, snowy, sometimes scary city while her mother waits at home. But what seems at first to be the gentle confidence of a loving mother assuring her child that she can make it home through the city and the snow slowly reveals itself to be something else entirely. Launched in 2013, Inclusive Minds is a collective for people who are passionate about inclusion, diversity, equality and accessibility in children’s literature and are committed to changing the face of children’s books.
