About this deal

It’s a little clumsy but just as effective at providing an accurate indication of shooting conditions. Plus, these are usually more affordable than their digital counterparts.

My L-358 manual explains the use of the "% Flash" under "Flash analyzing measurement function" in the Advanced Functions section. I've noticed some variation in how Sekonic names some of their products features so consulting the manual for the model in question will show you what features it has and also how to use them. Incident light meters measure the amount of light falling on the meter’s diffusion sphere or other accessories used on the sensor. This allows incident exposure readings to provide a high level of accuracy. Another great application of a light metering system is to measure the power of off-camera flash photography units. Reflected light meters measure the light that is reflected by a scene. This is the type of light meter found in any camera that has a built-in light meter.

Having aperture priority available will only apply to ambient light measurements. Flash measurements are always shutter priority. IMO not having ambient aperture priority is no big deal. You just take the reading in shutter priority then while looking at the display press the + or - buttons and the meter will change the display to show other aperture/shutter combinations. You don't need to take another reading. Lux Light Meter Pro has a simple user interface that’s easy for first-timers to master. Unfortunately, it’s only available for iOS devices, but there’s plenty of other paid and free options available for Android.

The light meter runs off of a single AA and has an LCD screen that can be read in direct sunlight. This makes it a great choice to use with flash outdoors during the day. Battery life is also going to be excellent. Spot metering allows you to read the reflective light on a specific part of a subject rather than the whole subject or surrounding space. Reflected light: Switching, 40 deg. with built-in lens Measuring Range and Modes: Measuring Modes (Ambient Light): T priority, F priority, EV, HD_CINE (T priority), CINE (f/s priority), Lux/FC Measuring Modes (Flash light): Cordless, Cord-in (PC) Measuring Range at ISO100 (Ambient Incident Light): EV0 to EV19.9 It’s also one of the best light meters due to its range of features and usability in both photography and cinematography. The Minolta Spotmeter F is a digital alternative to the Pentax Spotmeter V. Many more features are included, as well as automatic calculation of exposures.
