About this deal

Rereading it as an adult, i remembered all the bits that freaked me out (name one kid who doesn't have nightmares about Frankenstein's monster) as well as the books that i wanted to read because they were mentioned in here. Finally, the plot was very original. I think it's good that hollywood is getting kids too read. This is a very good introduction to some of literature's greatest classics.

Fantasy Helmet Enforcement: Inverted. When Richard first sets off on his bike he has a ludicrous amount of safety gear, but loses it by the end of the film as another nod to his character development of growing past his neuroses. Popcultural Osmosis: The movie seems to run on this, and depends somewhat on a passing familiarity with famous literary characters like Dr. Jekyll or Captain Ahab, etc. Siskel & Ebert even felt this was a major flaw; that the film didn't convey to audiences why these characters were so great. Evil Laugh: Mr Hyde, the deranged psycho version of Dr. Jekyll. He laughs maniacally even when he falls to his doom.Davis, Sandi (January 1, 1995). Shown Their Work: In keeping with the book, Mr. Hyde is not only smaller than Jekyll, he's leaner than him too. All of the stories in this book are awesome and I loved the way it was written. I love the character Horror :)Glamour Failure: The Anthropomorphic Personification of a Horror book is seen through a vial of mysterious liquid for a few frames of Beautiful All Along. Still this movie had good. It has a good lesson, that kids should face their fears and that when they do, they'll come out stronger. Kids will never apply it, but it's a good lesson. Stealth Pun: The dragon eating Richard. Kind of clever when you consider the dragon is supposed to be Richard's fears incarnate and manifested into physical form. Get it? He was consumed by fear? Casci's original screenplay included a story arc for the protagonist, Richard Tyler (played by Macaulay Culkin), who begins the tale as a boy who hates reading, but by the end of the film, learns to love reading. The revised screenplay by Contreras and Kirschner omitted the reading-themed story arc, instead emphasizing the boy's journey from cowardice to courage.

Lyttelton, Oliver (2012-08-06). "5 Things You Might Not Know About Brad Bird's 'The Iron Giant' ". IndieWire . Retrieved 2019-10-05. Ultimately, a settlement was reached, and Fox released the film with both Kirschner and Casci receiving story and screenplay credit, with a third writer, Ernie Contreras, also receiving screenplay credit. Some stories have been retold so many times by different authors, or have such obscure origins, that attempting to pinpoint a specific author is a bit silly (e.g. Mother Goose, Aladdin, etc.). So forgive me if I don't happen to list the "difinitive" or "best" version. The exception are those Hans Christian Anderson or Brothers Grimm stories which are decidedly the reference point for most Westerners. I will not speak of Disney. Or Was It a Dream?: Richard wakes up from his adventure in Fictionland. However, at the end the shadows and voices of Adventure, Horror, and Fantasy can be seen and heard in the real world. An absolute pleasure to read after being so fond of the movie. I never knew while growing up that there was a book. I never saw this as a kid, so with seeing it for the first time as adult I noticed that is very much geared toward younger kids with its short run time and simple story. But I did like its approach toward showcasing classic characters from literature. The film was a production by Turner Pictures. 20th Century Fox handled U.S. distribution, while Turner Pictures Worldwide handled international distribution. [10]
