About this deal

It’s available with soft, soft/medium or medium/firm fillings; I opted for medium and, like Goldilocks, found it was just right. But it’s worth the cost: it’s extremely comfortable, a lovely surface to sleep on and suitable for summer and winter. It is made from a core of Hungarian goose feather sandwiched between chambers of goose down, but it is finished with a special sateen cotton cover that’s tightly woven and down and dust mite-proof to make it hypoallergenic. Memory foam is, unfortunately, not very eco-friendly – so it’s good to see Simba innovating in this area where they can. Like its Original counterpart, the Premium Microfibre pillow offers full adjustability with two interchangeable microfibre layers.

These offer more support than a traditional pillow but less of that rigidness associated with standard memory foam pillows. However, we found removing and rearranging the layers quite challenging, as they are tightly packed into the Emma cover with an opening that only unzips partially. So keeping the body temperature quite low is important for staying in deep sleep as well as being comfortable. The head sinks into the pillow but is still met with a medium-lift that aligns the neck and shoulders. The most important factor is the sleeping position - it defines the right height of the pillow to support your spine and improve blood circulation. However, during our time using the Emma pillow, we didn't feel excessively hot but more cosy and comfortable. Unlike the Emma mattress which does arrive with an odd smell, the pillow didn’t smell at all, and it doesn’t need to be left to breath before use.

The Mattress Guide team is made up of experts from a variety of fields, from an orthopaedic spinal surgeon to an eco expert, and a child and baby sleep expert. Overall, this pillow is extremely supportive - I would go as far to say I could balance a glass of water on it, it’s that supportive. The company's idea was to make the mattress market as transparent and consumer-oriented as the market in the United States. I found it very difficult to decide which of the down pillows I preferred, as there really is a hair’s breadth between this one and the White Company or Scooms down pillows. It really did make a difference, while the star shape meant I could get my shoulders and neck into a good position. Its excellent temperature regulation is thanks to Simba’s Stratos technology, which is printed on one side of the pillow.

Although the pillow is marketed as being soft, it is often the case with these adjustable pillows that they're actually on the firmer side, but this was not the case this time around. That said, it's essential to remember that your mattress and duvet play a more significant role in determining your sleep temperature. Therefore, it's actually more cost-effective than a cheap, hollowfibre pillow that goes flat after a few months of use. It was just the right height and firmness for side sleeping, however it was a little too firm for comfortable back and stomach sleeping. The inner core is made from 15 per cent down and 85 per cent feather, and it’s sandwiched between outer chambers of 90 per cent down and 10 per cent feather. With so much height, I found wherever I lay, I still felt the support of the double layered cushioning inside, and importantly my head stayed aligned with my body. The last point to consider is the mattress - if you have a soft and elastic mattress which you'd sink deeper into, we'd recommend a flatter pillow.

This Premium ThermoSync foam maintains your body's ideal temperature so that you can achieve a deeper and more restful sleep without getting too cold or too warm at night.Industry connections:We maintain close relationships with manufacturers and brands, giving us a head start in the latest trends, upcoming products, and the technology that drives them. It was inspired by Outlast, a material originally designed for space exploration (NASA uses it in space suits) to help regulate temperature by absorbing, storing and releasing heat. The gel insert and moisture-wicking cover help keep things fresh, and while the cover's washable you'll probably want to add your own pillowcase anyway.
