About this deal

Usually the experience of someone living with dementia is lost; known only partially even to their loved ones. The miracle of this work is that it managed to capture the experience, and hold it up for the rest of us to see * Telegraph * Bergeson, Samantha (January 12, 2023). " 'Somebody I Used to Know' Trailer: Alison Brie Still Loves Her Ex in Dave Franco Rom-Com". IndieWire. Archived from the original on January 17, 2023 . Retrieved January 17, 2023. Family and friendship is at its heart. The change between past and present means you truly understand the relationship between Theo, George and Leah. Everyone should have a family who loves you no matter what and everyone should have friends like these. I just fell in love with them all. I felt so connected to them.

Remarkable ... Frank, angry, practical and, just occasionally, funny -- Gillian Reynolds * Sunday Times *

About the contributors

Blount’s writing is as appealing as ever. I love how she strings words together with beauty and ease. Initially, I was drawn into Ashley’s fears and pain. Her PTSD felt authentic. Fluent, lucid and illuminating ... The difficulties are clearly daunting and distressing, the future unpredictable and frightening. Yet Mitchell's sparkling book is hugely positive and uplifting. It should be required reading for all health professionals and anyone touched by dementia * Literary Review * Somebody I Used to Know". Metacritic. Archived from the original on February 20, 2023 . Retrieved February 20, 2023. I really don't know where to start with this review, I mean I thought the book was fabulous, and I heartily recommend it to everyone but I can't quite get to grips with my thoughts past that. This book was done so well the topics were handled in a way that I don’t think I’ve ever read in a YA book because I find with books about sexual assault if there’s a romance aspect then the romance seems to break the reality of the sexual assault trauma. This one has two different romances; Derek has a girlfriend, and Ashley has a love interest. They are both done excellently. Sexual assault is a part of each of these romantic relationships because they’re a part of these two different people. I never once felt like the actions of the couples went against the natural progression that would occur in a relationship with someone who is a survivor or family member of a survivor of a sexual assault.

Now that we’ve covered that Somebody I Used to know is not inspired by real events, it’s time to analyze the movie and its plot in a bit more detail. If you want to find out what to expect from the movie and how it came to be, stay with us and keep reading! What is Somebody I Used to Know about? A brave and illuminating journey inside the mind, heart, and life of young-onset Alzheimer's disease -- Lisa Genova, neuroscientist and author of 'Still Alice'As I said above the story switches between ‘then’, where we get to read about Leah, Theo and George as teenagers growing up together straight to the present day. I say it a lot but I’m a huge fan of stories with alternating chapters whether it’s characters or periods of time. Two years ago, Ashley Lawrence, a freshman in high school, was raped by a senior football player during Homecoming week. Since then, it has driven a wedge between her and her brother, Derek. They were once very close, but now Ashley hates him and can’t even stand to look at him. Derek is carrying around his own guilt about the night of the rape and feels partly responsible for what happened to Ashley. With both Ashley and Derek at odds, the rest of their family is feeling the strain. Can Ashley and Derek ever learn to forgive each other so that their family can start the healing process? Sometimes when I read a really great book in a certain genre or about a particular subject matter, I just want to keep reading more books like it.
