About this deal

I don’t understand some of the negative feedback Chalkys get - I have never had any problem and would absolutely recommend them. It's an identity couched in keeping it real, the very inclination that ultimately led Withers to retire in the mid-'80s rather than bend to industry pressures or risk credibility. That grounding forever separates Withers from other contemporary soul greats – and stamps Still Bill with a conversational nature and egoless approachability. Grown-up soul at its finest This was the LP on which the 38-year-old Withers fully came into his own.

Still think my favorite album/pressing of a Bill Withers album is that Vinyl Me, Please edition of +justments. Some time ago, Deep Discount had a blowout on the European only Bill Withers - The Complete Sussex and Columbia Albums box.Beside song "Lean on Me", which is number on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, this album contains many other soul and funk hits. Withers’ calm, self-assured voice hovers above it all, doubling as a warm blanket that adds comfort and grace to lyrics steeped in maturity, perspective, and compassion.

My Monarch Sterling pressing doesn’t have the LH and I can only find it on Discogs on Terre Haute and Sonic pressings but only on side 2. When he sang of hurt, the need for love and solidarity, you knew he was talking from first-hand experience. Side A is crammed full of great material and hit songs like the clarinet driven 'use me' and the gospel pop classic 'lean on me'. and "Take it All in and Check it All Out" have lyrics that grabbed my attention the first time I heard them.We stand behind every product we sell and offer free live support if you need assistance setting-up, troubleshooting, or maximizing your purchase.

Carrying on the folk-ish spontaneity of his compositions, on this record the songs get funkier, and thus juicier. The first time I spun it I was happy but not blown away, on my 3rd play now and it sounds MUCH better. I cannot agree with the comments I am reading that say this pressing is sterile, flat, or lacks bass. Miller added that Still Bill exemplified Withers' musical daring, having fused soul, blues, and "muscular funk" into a sound that finds "form between the lines … bound by the heated muscle of its rhythms and the satin berth of its softer moments". On September 7, 1972, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), having recorded at least 500,000 copies sold.

And there are some good tracks here (I quite like Withers delving into funk), along with some pretty standard soul music. Don't be fooled just by 'Lean on Me', this album contains many other songs in a totally different style.
