About this deal

The great thing about the Android OS is that you also have Android games that can be played. The RG353 does not come with the Google Play Store so you’ll have to source your apks from other places. One way to get apks is from APK Mirror and sideload your apps. To exit the emulator, hit the Start button then select exit in the menu for most paks or hit Select+Start. To find your pre-installed apps, use the touch screen to slide up from the bottom to open the app drawer. In the app drawer you’ll find an icon for each of the emulators that have been pre-installed with the system. Support will be limited for this feature. If a video/movie doesn't work on this, try a lower resolution or just use a more suitable device like a smartphone.

When I moved onto PSP emulation most games worked well, but larger games like God Of War will require some tinkering, and maybe even switching to the Linux OS for slightly better performance. Keep in mind that many apps still require Google Play Store services to be installed to play. I personally don’t recommend installing Play Store as it will impact performance. Without the Play store, your options of playable games will be more limited but if you are resourceful, you can probably find some apks that don’t require the play store to load. Some ergonomic compromises can limit what types of games will be comfortable to play on this device. To access BaRT, just hold the B button while booting and in a few seconds, you should be presented with the Boot and Recovery Tools screen similar to this: Create and/or copy your public key to the /home/ark/.ssh/authorized_keys file. See this link for help on how to accomplish this if needed.

The RG353V and RG353VS retro gaming consoles are powered by a 3200mAh li-polymer rechargeable battery. The battery life is up to 6 hours, times will vary depending on usage. A higher demanding game will have less battery life. The last device in the lineup is actually two variants: the RG353V and RG353VS. Both of these devices have the exact same form factor with the previously mentioned exception that the RG353VS is Linux only and has only 1GB of memory rather than the standard 2GB of the other devices. So, if you are looking to use Android you’ll want to go with the RG353V. If you are looking to save a little bit of money and don’t care about Android then you can’t go wrong with the RG353VS. Choosing the right OS for the RG353 While on the subject of gameplay quality the RG353V uses the same RK3566 chipset as the RG353P which (if you watched our review) was capped at Dreamcast emulation, and the same goes for this device because it’s almost exactly the same internally. In fact these could be the most fragile shoulder buttons I have ever tested. A light touch will activate them unnecessarily, making them unreliable and awkward to use. Audio from video snapshots and video screensaver does not play when bluetooth audio is connected. Resolved as of 01/03/2023 update.

Most distributions contain PortMaster which is a fantastic tool that helps to install old (and some new) linux/PC games that are playable on the RG353 On the top of the RG353M are shoulder and trigger buttons. There is a 3.5mm headphone port, USB Type-C port for connecting peripherals to, a Mini HDMI port for connecting to a TV or monitor, a second USB Type-C port which is used for charging and a Function button which is used to bring up the in-game menu. RG353M Top View Be sure Bluetooth is on. You can confirm bluetooth is on by pressing start and verifying it says BT:On In the status section at the bottom of the menu. If it says BT:Off, Hit the F button which should toggle it on. You can confirm by hitting start twice again To refresh the status area. Now that you have your device all ready to go and you are ready to start playing some games, here are a few useful accessories that I have found that will help you to make the RG353 experience even more fun! The RG353M is available in two colours, Blue and Deep Purple. The Blue colour was a very popular colour on the past model. Which is your favourite? Let us know in the comments. RG353M ColoursThe popularity of the Anbernic retro game consoles has been hyped up in the recent 2 years but still, some of you might run into issues during use. The RG353V variant, for instance. More specifically, there are 2 options: The rg353v and the rg353vs. The differences between the 2 are quite obvious: the rg353vs is an elite edition of the RG353V, that is to say, it does not have Android, and Touchscreen and wireless projection are not supported. Running on Android means that you will have access to a collection of built-in Android games. If you'd like to remove the splash screen all together, just rename the loading.jpg file to something else or simply delete it. Regarding the screen, RG353V bears a similar 640*480, 3.5-inch touchscreen display as the RG353P but unlike most Anbernic devices, it does not feature the company’s logo under the screen. This gives the device a sleeker and more minimalist look that’s quite appealing. The bezels are also relatively thin which is a welcome feature of the device.

In fact, speaking of the 353P, if any of this hardware section sounded familiar, well, it should. After all, the 353V, just like with former V-branded Anbernic units, is simply a 353P in a new shell (and with a slightly smaller battery.) Therefore, you should generally expect to see identical performance to that handheld. If you are a current or former 353P owner, none of this has been new, so let’s get to the new shall we? Inputs and Comfort Anbernic’s signature build quality is predictably on offer here, with high quality plastics and responsive controls. If you're experiencing excessive audio delays (of about 1 second or more) in retroarch based emulators, try reducing the retroarch audio delay configuration by going to retroarch Settings>Audio>Output>Audio Latency (ms). It's set by default to 128. You can try reducing that to 64 or another number and see if that helps. Anyway, when you do need to dive into the options to tweak a setting here or there, the Linux experience keeps a lot of the major stuff in the frontend. You get to avoid the kerfuffle of learning the ins and outs of, say, Retroarch, and instead set major global and per-game options in a user-friendly list. It also provides easy access to all of your UI customization, media scraping tools, and updates. Booting the Android frontend brings you to this uh Cyberpunk Arcade Trailer

Keep in mind that the RG353 is capable of reliably emulating up to PS1 with a lot of the N64 catalogue also being playable. However, you can definitely play a good number of Dreamcast and PSP games on this device. It’s these small additions on top of the touchscreen capabilities that adds value to using Android over Linux in my opinion, and it’s the first time I have seen ANBERNIC tinker with such features, which surprises me because they often overlook small things like this, but I think they are seeing competitors do this and be complimented on it so they want to be seen as “doing the same”.

It could be that you're unit's battery is low on charge and you need to charge it. Make sure you let it completely charge. To prepare this card properly to be read by both systems, you need to first boot into the Android system (remove card from TF1 slot) and place your blank SD card into the TF2 slot once the OS is running. This will allow you to format the card as external storage readable by the Android OS. Assuming you’ve configured your TF2 SD card properly for games and all of the files are in the right folders, your Linux OS of choice should automatically read them from the card and present you with a series of menu options including one for each game system as well as one for Favorites and one for Tools or Options. You must have a compatible mini HDMI cable. There have been reports that some HDMI cables don't work correctly with this unit. Make sure you have one that is relatively new and of known good quality. Simply adding your ROM files to a new SD Card and crawling it in the menus will add it automatically to your library. RG353V Emulation Quality Q. Can the mouse pointer that's always visible in the upper right corner of Drastic (NDS Emulator) be removed? A. As of the writing of this entry (11/10/2020), it can not be removed. It’s unfortunately a "feature" of the emulator for the time being. Resolved as of the 1/28/2021 update. Q. My unit doesn't seem to boot from the SD card anymore. What could be the issue? A. It could be one of the following issues: When you first boot into Android on the RG353 device, you’ll be presented with a pretty empty screen. The basic things you’ll need to know
