About this deal

With up to 60 minutes run time and a bagless dirt cup that has ample capacity to clean the whole house, this vacuum is designed to make cleaning effortless. The floorhead can glide seamlessly between floor types and controls on the handle allow you to select hard floor or carpet as well as adjusting between one of the three power levels. The Anti Hair Wrap technology stops hair getting tangled in the brush rolls, meaning less maintenance. While we tested the Eco and Boost power modes, we generally used the vacuum in Clean Sense IQ mode as we wanted to get a good feel for how the Clean Sense IQ technology worked. When there was lots of dirt or debris on the floor, the suction was increased automatically and then returned to normal when the area was clean. The suctioning capability of this vacuum was superb, and we never had to run over the same area more than twice. Powerful suction, and suction is adjusted automatically to maximize battery life. MultiFLEX wand and swiveling floor head make it easy to clean less accessible areas. The Shark Stratos Cordless with Clean Sense IQ IZ862H helpfully has a MULTIflex wand which bends to increase the reach under furniture (Image credit: Future) With all the controls on the handle, adjusting the suction power or floor type as you vacuum is effortless, however, we did have to keep repositioning our hand for comfort, the handle can be uncomfortable if your grip is too close to the control panel.

This has to be the most well-designed vacuum cleaner kit I’ve ever seen. It comes with a range of materials, and I’m no longer constrained by plugs and cords when it comes to cleaning. I Emptying the dust cup on any vacuum isn’t exactly fun and that’s why it’s important to consider the size of the dust bin on a new vacuum cleaner. Dyson cordless vacuums take the trophy here with bigger dust cups (the Dyson Outsize Absolute has a capacity of 0.5 gallons, whereas the Shark Pet Plus holds up to 0.085 gallons of dust and dirt. It's a versatile cleaner that can be operated in one of several configurations, depending on what surface you're cleaning. Floors are cleaned easily in the upright vacuum cleaner mode. From here, you can detach the wand, or just the handle for a speedy transition to overhead or above floor cleaning while the vacuum pod remains attached to the floorhead. It weighs 6.2kg / 12.4 pounds which is acceptable especially given that it’s bottom-heavy. It also disassembles, so when cleaning high places, the majority of the weight doesn’t need lifting overhead as it can be carried in your other hand. When vacuuming exclusively in boost mode, that battery lasted for just 11.5 minutes, so it’s best to utilize all the suction levels to prolong the battery during use. And though the selection of tools is useful, we’d have preferred if the US model was supplied with the mini motorized pet tool that comes with this vacuum if you buy it in the UK. Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum: Care and maintenance Several replacement parts for the vacuum are available to buy from Shark, enabling you to prolong the life if anything breaks. Furthermore, the lengthy 5-year warranty covers manufacturing faults if you buy it from an authorized retailer. Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum: Price and availability

When cleaning floors, the bottom-heavy design means the vacuum feels lightweight and maneuvers well around tight corners. That does mean that it’s bulky at the base, which stops it from reaching very far under low furniture. But by lifting the pod from the wand and holding it one hand, you remove the bulk and in this mode it has excellent reach under low furniture. The main part of the vacuum sits just above the floorhead with a hose that connects it to the handle and wand, in a design that’s more akin to a plug-in upright vacuum. It retains all the versatility of a cordless vacuum though, and this set up works well for overhead cleaning too. The entry-level vacuums are less powerful and with smaller dust canisters, while as you move through the range the suction improves, as does the capacity and you’ll see the addition of handy tech that ensures the vacuum cleaner can be converted in handheld mode or stops hair getting tangled around the brush bar.

Perhaps the most significant difference in design philosophy between the two brand's offerings is only visible after you've flipped them over. While both may have started with single roller heads, Shark has pushed continuously forward, developing twin roller heads for most of the vacuums on their lineup. The promotional material would tell you that this design is ideal for multi-surface households, with an unpowered soft roller collecting lightweight debris like dust on hard floors and the main roller providing the necessary surface agitation to lift away debris embedded in carpets. Shark has also long-touted the self-cleaning capability of these primary brushrolls, which use plastic fins to capture any long strands of hair before they can foul up the mechanisms. If you struggle to clean overhead with heavy cordless vacuums, the Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum one is a good option thanks to the powered-lift away function that means you don’t need to hold the main part of the vacuum up high. If you'd like to see a rundown of all the cordless models offered by Shark and Dyson, see the table linked here. Dyson vs Shark: Corded Vacuums When vacuuming on Boost using the main floor head in carpet mode the battery lasted 11.5 minutes. But this is the worst case scenario, for increased battery life you can choose Deep Clean or Eco modes and the battery will last even longer when using a non-motorized tool. The Powered Lift-Away design takes this from an upright into a portable vacuum that can be held in one hand while still using the main floorhead in the other, giving excellent reach under low furniture. And for stairs or overhead cleaning, the attachments can be used in this mode to make cleaning easy.

This vacuum is amazing. It’s tiny and compact, and it’s extremely flexible. You can vacuum with only the handle, like a Dustbuster. You can vacuum your whole house with the hose and brush attached. At Now the negative part... and it all has to do with shark customer support and product support in general. The Shark Stratos Cordless with Clean Sense IQ IZ862H can be neatly folded for storage, and stays upright (Image credit: Future) Shark Stratos Cordless with Clean Sense IQ IZ862H performance We cleaned our floorboards with the duster brush tool, and when we needed to get into tight corners we changed the brush Tool into a crevice tool. The vacuum was light enough to use the crevice tool to clean the corners of our 10-foot ceilings and atop door frames. We were excited to use the Anti-Allergen Dusting Brush on our window blinds as they get very dusty if, however, it didn’t clean the blinds as well as we’d hoped.

The power and cleaning performance of a full-size vacuum (tested in Boost mode vs. ZU630). Now 25% lighter than Shark's leading upright (vs. Shark® Vertex™ AZ2000). So if you’ve decided it’s time to invest in a powerful vacuum with cutting-edge tech, you may have noticed that although the vacuum cleaner market is crowded with brands, there are two big players that stand out. Shark and Dyson are both brands that regularly make it onto our lists of the best vacuumsand best cordless vacuumsand both have a wide array of models to choose from. So when comparing Shark vs Dyson how do you choose? When compared to a budget vacuum like the Aspiron Cordless Vacuum , the Shark starts to look like an expensive option. However, it comes with the Shark vacuum pedigree and it offers more accessories as well as better design and functionality.

When testing the vacuum, we never came close to running down the battery when vacuuming our 1,600sq ft / 150sq m home, and we’d often end a vacuuming session with about 40% of battery left. Since 2018, Dyson has been focussing on cordless vacuums, and while the brand does offer a handful of corded upright vacuums and in the US and Australia, canister-style floor cleaners (often referred to as cylinder vacuums or barrel vacuums), its biggest range of floor cleaners are wire-free. Dyson cordless vacuums typically have a longer run time than Shark models, but even the Dyson V11 Outsize will only last around 15 minutes if you continuously use it on the Boost mode. The newest Dyson models claim to have a run time of 60 minutes, whereas the latest Shark cordless vacuums have a maximum battery life of 40 minutes.
