The fourth season featured an entire week of celebrity shows, four of them featuring GSN personalities including: Lingo occasionally featured theme weeks where the set was decorated, the host, hostess, and contestants wore costumes, and the theme music and logo redone in the theme's style. Themes included Sc-Fi, Fiesta Week and Hawaiian week. Two teams of two contestants competed in a game of guessing five-letter words and making bingo or in this case, "lingo." The team lost control if they didn't guess the word in five turns, guessed a word that doesn't fit (shorter or longer than five letters), is not a real word, misspell a word, guessed a word that can only be a proper noun, or just plain ran out of time. If any one of those things happened, the opposing team got a shot at the word. When stealing, a free letter was given (in this version it was referred to as a "clue letter"), but if there was only one blank space left, no free letter was given, but the team did get a five second conference (conferring was generally not allowed except in this situation).
The episode due to be broadcast on 20 January 2021 was delayed to 11 February 2021 so ITV could show extended coverage of the US presidential inauguration (in particular, so they could get on air at 3.30, the same time as the BBC).Control passes to the opposing team if the team in control either fails to make a guess before five seconds expire; makes an invalid guess (a misspelled word, a proper noun, a contraction, a hyphenate, or a word not five letters in length), or guesses incorrectly on the fifth turn. Passing control to the opposing team also reveals another letter in the word, unless doing so would fill in the word completely. If the opposing team still fails to guess, then the word is discarded and a new one generated. The world of board gaming comes with its own crazy lingo. Family board games In the second round, the point values were doubled and three balls with question marks on them were placed in the hoppers, which could be used to cover any number on a team's card when drawn. The team leading at the end of this round won the game and advanced to play Bonus Lingo.
These gamers will tend to ignore classic and slightly older games in favor of these newer games, leaving the older ones unplayed. After correctly guessing a word, the team that did so got a chance to draw two balls from inside their hopper, with each teammate drawing one. Each hopper contained balls that had the uncovered positions on the Lingo board printed on them, as well as three gold balls and three red balls. The gold balls awarded prizes to the team if they were drawn, and the team had to win the game to claim them. The red balls, if drawn, caused the team to lose control.
