About this deal

Milliput is also used to fix gaps and joins in models, such as mould lines (small seams often found in miniatures). The best way to do this is to mix Milliput with a small amount of water as it’s easier to shape and smooth once it’s wet. Maybe not a perfect repa ir (due to my skills, rather than the product) but is strong enough to hold quite a heavy trim panel. Success with that one has spurred me on to repair another more visible trim panel and having learned a couple of techniques from the first one has given me a much improved repair. Milliput is kind of annoying to sand if I am being honest. While it is quite easy to sand it I often have the problem, that I accidentally take off to much in one go. So it is actually too easy to sand. First, you have to clean the surface of the epoxy sculpture from any dirt and dust by using some soapy water and a piece of cloth.

Alternatively, you can opt for using ProCreate Putty, which I saw mentioned here, and sounds like something that acts a bit more like you would expect of a watered down putty. Find sources: "Milliput"– news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR ( December 2010) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) Powder pigment can be mixed in, in small quantities, so that the mixture does not become too dry and crumbly. Strong powder pigment rather than powder paint is better as smaller amounts can be used. Liquid colourings, like enamel paints, oil paints, spirit based-dyes or pigments can also be used to colour Milliput, but liquids or pastes may be difficult to introduce into the putty, again small quantities should be used, to avoid creating a very wet mix that may be difficult to mix. After the Primer has dried it is finally time to paint the sculpture. Simply use the paint of your choice ( I personally love to use acrylic Paint) and paint your sculpture however you like.

If you’ve had a box of Milliput in storage for a while and try to work with it, you may find that it’s very hard to mix and may not harden correctly. Is Milliput toxic? My father-in-law Neil introduced me to Milliput when I was looking for something to use to make the bark on a wire armature for a mini tree. I’d never heard of it, but he very kindly shared his knowledge with me – as a veteran model boat, aeroplane and railway enthusiast, he’s used Milliput for many years. After Milliput is set hard, it will continue to cure and is fully dry in around 8 hours. After this it can be machined, drilled, tapped, turned, filed, sawn, sandpapered and painted. Milliput can be sandpapered and painted immediately after it has set. (it is advisable to wear eye protection during this process).

The ratio really depends on what you want to achieve - what works best for your application. I suggest experimenting with the amount, slowly adding more, until it behaves the way you want it to. And what about fixing pipes? Can Milliput epoxy putty be used to repair a leaking pipe? Regular readers of PipeRepair.co.uk should know the answer to that one as we can often be found extolling the virtues of epoxy putty when it comes to sorting leaks and bursts. Epoxy putty is an amazing sculpting material because of its ease of use and for its amazing durability. I personally love to use it for small integrate details on my sculptures or if I need a sculpture to be very durable. The extraordinary durability is one of the big advantages of epoxy putty over regular air dry clay. First used this product about 35 years ago at work and was impressed then. Forgot about it for the best part of the 30 years in between but was reminded of it on a car forum recently. Whereas Milliput is a general purpose putty, Superfast Steel is designed especially for the repair and bonding of steel and other ferrous metals. It will therefore provide a higher-quality repair than Milliput. It is also WRAS approved.
