Pneumatic launchers [ edit ] A large pneumatic design: The projectile is loaded in the muzzle (not pictured), which is then attached to the cannon (at 2). The air reservoir (3) is filled to 120psi (0.83MPa) using the Schrader valve (4). Upon opening the solenoid valve (1), the air from the reservoir is transferred to the projectile, which is fired out of the muzzle.

Sprinkler valve (otherwise known as a solenoid valve): The use of irrigation sprinkler valves as pneumatic valves has become increasingly popular for spudgunning. These valves are intended to be electrically triggered causing a solenoid to depressurise a diaphragm and allow airflow through. It is also possible to remove the solenoid and, instead, to actuate the valve manually with a blowgun to depressurise the diaphragm. Such modifications allow the valve to open as much as 3 to 5 times faster. The important thing is that if the cops want to press the issue, they can - they might not. They might just give you a warning and take it off you. However, they able to do more if they choose. Any pneumatic with a potential power output exceeding 12 ft-lbs will also fit within either section 1 or section 5 (Section 2 cannot be air powered) If the air powered spud gun has soft ammunition (potatoes) that splatter or bounce on impact and is kept under 100psi the spud gun is perfectly legal. If the barrel is less than 16 inches then it is NOT a rifle, and is a hand gun, and if the muzzel energy greater than 6 foot pounds it is classed as a section 5 firearm and is illegal for almost everyone. Me and a few friends have recently built a potato cannon (or 'spud gun' or 'spudzooka'). A potato cannon is usually made out of PVC (Drainage) Pipe, a potato is rammed down the long end (the barrel), some hairspry (or deodrant) is sprayed into a large barrel (the combustion chamber) , it's sparked using a sparker of any kind, and the potato goes flying. The law on AIR GUNS has just changed, and there are now age limits. Tresspass with an air gun is criminal tresspass. The piping and any reinforcement may be insufficiently strong for the high pressure spike when the dry ice bomb explodes and consequently ruptures.

A dry ice cannon uses the sublimation of solid carbon dioxide to generate the gas pressure to propel a projectile and is a variation of the burst disk cannon. Combustion powered spud guns typically have the least complex designs, the four basic elements of which are: Once I had the parts, it took only a couple of hours to as-semble the cannon. At least, I think it was only a couple of hours; the fumes from the solvent cleaner and glue are very strong, and you can, like, wow, man, find yourself, like, tripping. Once you’ve finished hallucinating, it’s worth leaving for several hours to let your glue set – and get some fresh air. The highest projectile speed recorded from a spud gun is 933.3m/s (3,062ft/s) (approximately 2.7 times the speed of sound) with a 16.6-gram (256gr) 20mm plastic slug from a hybrid using a 20MPa (2,900psi) pre-ignition mixture of air and propane. [22] New stuff". The Spudgun Technology Center. 14 January 2010 [6 July 2002] . Retrieved 16 August 2011.A potato cannon is a pipe-based cannon that uses air pressure ( pneumatic), or combustion of a flammable gas (aerosol, propane, etc.), [1] [2] [3] [4] to launch projectiles at high speeds. [5] They are built to fire chunks of potato, as a hobby, or to fire other sorts of projectiles, for practical use. Projectiles or failing guns can be dangerous and result in life-threatening injuries, including cranial fractures, enucleation, and blindness if a person is hit. [6] Essentially, if you are a 18 year old, in a farm with no one around for 280 meters further than your projectile will fire, and you can show that it is NOT CAPABLE under any circumstance of producing more than the specified power and you are more than 50 feet from any roadway a car can travel on, you may win the court case.
