Lubricate it: Cover the plaster with baby oil, then soak some cotton wool in the same substance before rubbing it over the plaster until you can slowly peel off the corners. If you don’t have baby oil at home, try using a product like hand or body lotion, or even a small amount of cooking oil such as vegetable or olive oil to do the same job.

Removal can take a couple of weeks or more, but that’s faster than most acid treatments. There’s none of the stinging discomfort you get with a freeze treatment, so it’s much more suitable for children. The main downside is that the stuff comes out of the tube fast when you first open it, so be careful not to get it on healthy skin. Acid treatments use salicylic acid or trichloroacetic acid to eat away your wart from the top down, burning through the dead skin. That may sound nasty, but acid treatments are relatively gentle, and can take a couple of months to remove a stubborn wart. You can try this method for removing mould on skirting boards, walls, around windows and even on fabrics. Aim for a ratio of two cups of water to 1/4 tablespoon of baking soda and scrub the affected area with a brush, before rinsing clean and treating the area again for good measure. If there are inconsistencies in the type of work recommended, or if you're concerned that the companies may be recommending unnecessary treatment, consider getting an independent damp specialist to assess your home. Wait until clothes or bed linen are fully dry before putting them into storage, to avoid damp smells. Excess humidity: Too much humidity causes damp — and damp causes mould.
