About this deal

But before you begin your journey, you have to step into the shoes of one of eight iconic Star Wars characters, each with their own personal goal and ability. Han Solo may want to find the fastest ship in the galaxy, while Boba Fett is looking to bring in bounties dead or alive. Even with everything we’ve shown so far, we’ve only scratched the surface of everything that can be found in Unfinished Business. What will you do to become a living legend? Find out when Unfinished Business arrives in stores this summer! In Outer Rim, you take on the role of an underworld denizen, setting out to make your mark on the galaxy. You’ll travel the Outer Rim in your personal ship, hire legendary Star Wars characters to join your crew, and try to become the most famous (or infamous) outlaw in the galaxy! As we mentioned in an article last week, KeyForge is going on hiatus with a planned relaunch alongside a digital version of the game in the future. In the In-Flight Report, we gave a sneak-peek at the game’s sixth set, Winds of Exchange.

Another major addition in Unfinished Business is the introduction of the Core Worlds to the game board.

Fantasy Flight Games is the studio responsible for Star Wars: Outer Rim and Unfinished Business, with the company releasing other Star Wars board games such as the miniatures game Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: Armada. This new standalone scenario gives us our first look at the city of Arkham in different time periods. Investigators must jump between the 1890s, the 1920s, and the 1950s as they try to solve a mystery of scientists disappearing throughout time. Machinations Through Time is the next in line of our special Gen Con scenario releases, similar to The Blob That Ate Everything and War of the Outer Gods. Like those two scenarios, Machinations is compatible with epic multiplayer mode, which means players can work together with other teams to solve this chronological caper. This standalone scenario will hit stores in the first quarter of 2022. Turns continue until one player reaches ten fame, at which point they become a living legend and win the game! Encounter Step – The active player resolves a single encounter, usually by drawing an encounter card corresponding to their space.

Fantasy Flight’s tease for Unfinished Business revealed the expansion’s title and cover artwork, but stopped short of explaining what the box will actually bring to the core game. While Outer Rim generally attracted praise for its gameplay and use of the Star Wars universe, criticism typically concerned the limited number of events and cards in the base set - leading to calls for an expansion to add replayability and variety shortly after release. Once you have your new ship, you’ll need some things to fill it with. Fortunately, this expansion provides plenty of new gear, cargo, mods, and jobs for you to experience! Many of these cards have two assets: one on each end. These “rotating assets” have special features or represent 2-part tasks, and the rules for rotating them depend on the cards themselves. For example, the Bowcaster Astromech Droid Parts Custom Paint Job Six new ships are added to the game including the Jumpmaster 5000 which can be upgraded to Dengar’s Punishing One, a Rogue class Porax-38 starfighter which can upgrade to Cad Bane’s Xanadu Blood, and a VCX-100 light freighter which upgrades to the Ghost from Star Wars: Rebels. Several of these ships go along with the new playable characters. The eight new character standees and cards. Who will you play as? Image by Michael Knight. Here is an example of a new databank card for Boba Fett, one of the playable characters from the base game, now in crew form. The first step in the game is choosing your character. Each player in the game gets to choose which character they want to play, which consists of some familiar faces, such as Han Solo, and can get down and dirty with bounty hunters and lesser-known smugglers. Whoever you choose to play as comes with a set of attributes, goals they must accomplish, and proficiencies, as well as a starting salary. Starting with the former, each character can have proficiencies such as stealth, tech, pilot, influence, strengths, and tactics. These can be doubled up when you add more characters to your player’s crew. If I added Boba Fett to my crew with Han as a leader, they both might have to pilot a ship as a proficiency, which means I have a strong proficiency in piloting. That will come into play when I play the game. You want to pay attention to these proficiencies, as they will be vital for success in the galaxy. They’re a wonderful addition to strategy in this game and directly related to rolling dice during combat.

DescriptionFar from the shadows of Coruscant’s skyscrapers lies the dangerous Outer Rim. To many citizens, the galaxy's edge represents a hive of scum and villainy that is better left ignored. But to the scoundrels of the galaxy, the Outer Rim represents opportunity. If you can survive the harsh conditions of the edge of space, you may just find yourself emerging from the grime of the underworld as one of the most famous scoundrels in the galaxy.

When you’re not fighting a ground war with your character, you’re fighting a space battle with your ship. The ship battle can be for cargo, bounties, jobs, mods, or simply for survival against a particular organization that you might run into during your space journey. The latter of the bunch involves the four main organizations mentioned previously (Hutts, Empire, Rebels, and the Syndicate), who are always patrolling space looking for those who oppose them. They are represented by tokens, which follow players around their path. If you run into one of the tokens on the board, then you’re in a space battle that correlates to a specific numbered card and a reward that is generally significant. That shouldn’t mean you’re looking for trouble, as those organizations certainly bring the pain at times.

Daring Outlaws

There was a fair amount of excitement over Restoration Games bringing this beloved game into the modern day. Regardless of how you feel about apps and electronics in your board game, Return to Dark Tower balances feeling familiar and intriguingly new. The centerpiece tower brings a literal and figurative elevation to the game experience. Whether Dark Tower was an old flame or a new discovery, there’s lots to love about this game. The other optional addition to the game is ambitions. If the player completes all four objectives on this sheet, they win the game!
