About this deal

The IKEA SKARPÖ outdoor armchair, after enduring multiple seasons of harsh weather, was left stained and seemingly beyond cleaning. I’ve gotta say (and I’ve had them for two years now), they’re so much more comfortable than I thought – and that’s without cushions. The result is a stunning shibori-patterned table that adds a touch of artistry to any patio. This DIY is not just about revamping a table; it’s about embracing creativity and making a statement with your outdoor furniture. As we’ve seen from the featured projects, with ingenuity and effort, IKEA pieces can be reinvented to match any decor vision. With the versatility of IKEA products and a dash of creativity, ordinary furniture pieces are transformed into unique and functional outdoor decor.

I was on a tight budget at the time (aren’t I always?), and IKEA Tempe was just minutes up the road from me, so off I went to secure two Skarpo outdoor armchairs.Drawing inspiration from the Japanese dyeing technique, shibori, the table is given a unique and vibrant makeover without needing actual dyeing. The Applaro range is made from Acacia wood and it comes in pieces, so as with most IKEA products you will be getting acquainted with your Allen key again. The assembly was pretty easy though. However, with a touch of creativity and effort, the armchair was given a new lease of life. The transformation involved a meticulous painting process, ensuring the plastic material was treated correctly.Theplastic alsogets hotter than the sun on a warm day, so do bearin mind that you’ll have to cover them up if this is of major concern. The team at Fusion Mineral Paint presents a delightful DIY project that breathes new life into an old IKEA patio table.

The process involved meticulous sanding, white-washing, and sealing. The result? A stunning pale wood tone modernises the set and exudes a rich, resort-like aura. I was in a rental home at the time, so I did my best to jazz it up. Since then, I’ve moved from Sydney to Melbourne and now the furniture sits outside in the direct sun – so it’s definitely copped its fair share of rays. I think selling them in pieces is a genius idea. It allows you to completely customise how you want to lay the furniture out. You can also attach singular chairstogether so they form a two, three or four-seater lounge (and so on), or you can leave them unattached. I leave mine unattached, just for versatility’s sake. Nicole Robin’s post offers a delightful insight into how she breathed new life into her IKEA Applaro outdoor furniture.

IKEA Outdoor Furniture Review: Skarpo and Applaro

Initially not a fan of the dark, reddish stain, she embarked on a journey to give it a luxurious Restoration Hardware feel. This was the most amazing part of the whole experience. I once had a competitor outdoor setting that was wood and every six months it needed to be re-oiled. And it never looked the same as when I got it. So far, the IKEA range hasn’t faded at all. Winning. Using DecoArt’s Outdoor Living Paint, Anam painted wave-like patterns on the chairs, one in shades of green and the other in pink and purple. The paints, specifically designed for outdoor furniture, ensure durability. Only downside: You’ll have to wipe them down regularly if left outside uncovered. Around the small drainage hole on the seat, dirt collects. But that’s not a huge deal. Kim’s transformation of the IKEA ÄPPLARÖ patio table is nothing short of impressive. Faced with the challenge of a red-stained table that didn’t align with her vision, Kim decided to take matters into her own hands. The transformation is functional and adds an aesthetic appeal to any space. The article is filled with excitement, from Medina’s newfound green thumb to her collaboration with REMODELAHOLIC.COM.
